Me and my husband decided to go for a nice meal after coming from abroad. The restaurant seemed nice and the front was packed with people enjoying their meal. We both asked for grilled sea-bass. First we were told that there was only one left so my husband went for steak. After a few minutes we were told that there was none left or any other options of grilled fish. I was then offered a cod salad as an alternative. Both our meals were salty which was disappointing as we just wanted to enjoy the meal. The steak was really chewy and fatty and the peppercorn sauce was salty.
On top of that I was arrogantly questioned as to why I wasn't speaking my language, Portuguese and I really had to explain that my husband is English, which is the reason why I was just speaking in English. We had a long trip to Faro and I just wanted to sit down and eat something so I asked my husband if I could rush ordering food and not have to translate to him.
As someone who is from Lisbon always had an amazing experience with hospitality in Portugal, I am very disappointed with this restaurant. The waiter kept saying how bad it was of the colleague to coerce me to order a meal that was nowhere close to what I was going to order and that it was sad.
The whole thing just made me feel really sad and disappointed and I just wanted to enjoy a meal with my husband.
I genuinely think that they serve amazing meals but I personally will never eat there again. It felt that money mattered more than the customer. My husband didn't like the steak but paid for it anyway as I put my foot down and said I wouldn't pay for mine. We really hate complaining as we worked in hospitality before but this...
Read moreThis is the most awful experience I have ever had on a holiday. I went for breakfast at this place and the waiter guy there started asking me questions like where I was from, I told him I was from the UK then he asked where I was originally from, and told me that I should speak in my original language not English, the guy was the rudest waiter I have ever met. He is old and presumably has been working as a waiter for his whole life, therefore, I was expecting him to be a bit wiser & provide better customer service to all customers regardless of people’s race, religion or any other differences. As he walked away after I paid my bill, he said something in French, I didn’t understand but there were two French & English speaking & guys next to my table & They told me “Bro the guy has just made a very rude comment about Asian people” - I think it’s very cowardly for him to make such comment in a language that he knew I don’t speak/ understand. See the comments below from other customers about his rude and inappropriate behaviour. The whole experience was...
Read moreWas walking to eat somewhere else, but saw a menu that arouse my interest and the smart and friendly Arturo was quick to convince me to lunch here. I may have eaten better black pork cheeks.. in my life that is - because certainly not very often. They were maybe not delicious, but they were very tasty and tender. And for the price of the day menu, €12.50, with a spicy chicken soup, a cake and a coffee, it was worth every cent and the value for quality is outstanding. Arturo is the multi-lingual waiter: with an intersting personality, impeccable waiting etiquette and a friendly manner, he's truly a gem in this place. Note to the owner: whatever he earns, he deserves a pay rise! 😁 The Nepalese chefs also do a great job cooking very tasty food. To top it all up, the atmosphere is very warm, with a cosy, open space and a great playlist of famous songs' covers that everyone likes, with a jazzy twist.
I only can recommend to try Cozinha das Ilhas, whether for lunch or for dinner. I should...
