Unfortunately, this place was disappointing... It is so rare and wonderful that they have decided to dedicate a whole small place to vegan food! It is so precious to have this option! But, I have to say, I was a bit sad to realise that with so many possibilities to make nice food, they chose to serve burgers with "supermarket processed food". It is nice to have real portobello burgers, freshly made tofu, seitan and so on. Of course, you can also have the "beyond meat", but you don't have to have all the burgers that are basically made somewhere else and with low quality. Even the salad in the burger was not very fresh.... We were also unlucky with the mood of the waitress that day, I think she was a little overwhelmed by all the people at the same time. But that was probably just the day. The place itself is not really cosy and a bit pretentious.... But with good company, all is well. As for the other food, the cakes look really good, but I didn't try them... Maybe next time... If someone goes for the coffee and cake it might be a different experience, but for the burgers I would really suggest they improve the quality, and that is not difficult at all! If you go to "Haburgeria do Bairro" in Lisbon, they are not only vegan, they have amazing vegan burgers. So it really is possible and easy to do with a bit of research. On the other hand, we went with a group of amazing people, so it was a...
Read moreShockingly rude service. I've never had an experience like this before. I walked in, smiled, said hi quietly, and looked at the baked items. It smelled really nice inside, so I was excited to finally try to Portuguese food. The girl didn't acknowledge me, which is fine, but then I asked if there are tables upstairs and she went off, "you order first. You're supposed to walk in, SAY HELLO, then order, then sit down." I was shocked by her response and just laughed it off. Then I asked if they take cards because I forgot to stop and an ATM. She said they prefer cash, so I just asked if there is an ATM nearby. She angrily gave me directions, which i almost ignored because I was being yelled at and I just wanted to get out. I said okay, thank you, and walked out, she saw that I turned the corner through the window and ran out of the restaurant and yelled "GIRL, NOT THAT WAY!!! THAT WAY" in such a rude way. Another woman on the street scoffed. It was so ridiculous. I turned around and went the way she said, but I fully decided I wasn't coming back after that. I'll take my money to any other restaurant where I'm not abused. This is my 10th country traveling as a vegan and I've never had to leave a restaurant or been yelled at. I'm guessing some reviews here must be from days other staff are working. I've never seen such polarized...
Read moreI visited Vegan Box for the first time last year. The food wasn't 5 stars, and I even found blue hair on the vegalhau.
The second time, a year later, I wanted to give them another chance. I ordered the black hole burger, and it didn't taste bad; the fries were good, but... I got the worst food poisoning. If the intention was to take me into a black hole after eating this burger.... It worked. I've been vegan for 8 years and am shocked as i never had food poisoning before. Now, looking back, the food on display doesn't look well refrigerated or fresh, and the place looks dirty. I feel so naive for having eaten there then, even though the site doesn't look food-safe.
It's sad to say it about a vegan business, but they need to revamp their whole place to achieve the bare minimum health safety standard. Otherwise, avoid it...
