If you do dine inafeora, the loos your self in one of the small street and find a place that locals go to ...and you will be in fir a treat! This place is exactly for that very expitence - a local Portuguese food that it's so delicious that it does not need to be seasoned much , just like typical Portuguese food is. We had "bife do lombo" which essentially looks gilled shoulder and grilled sward fish the is very specific for Portuguese cuisine. Both delicious and great portions. I would highly recommend to try typical for Madeira sweet potato with garlic butter bread which goes well with grilled food. In the pictures you can also see need skerews which is another typical Madeira dish well worth trying. Deserts are few but all very typical for region. The passion fruit pudding is quite rich as made with condensed milk and cream and topped with passion fruit, and carmel pudding which is also rich and can be made 2 diffetent ways. We also had house wine - smithy, slightly fruity and goes down really well. Staff is relaxed and attentive. The whole dinner was under £50 which is a good suprise too.

We came here for their seafood rice. It was decent portion and good value for three people to share. We did enjoy it but it was quite salty for us. So we ended up drinking lots of water that evening. The lapas was well cooked, enough garlic and olive oil. I have to say the limpet was not my thing (I tried!) but will be a delicious dish if you change to other shells. Octopus salad was okay, maybe because it was cold dish the octopus was a bit dry. We should have ordered octopus lagareiro - it was a whole baby octopus! The frito was okay, I wouldn’t order it again. The staff was very nice and friendly, had a good time at the restaurant!

The restaurant is tucked down a cozy street in Funchal. At the time we sat, the outside patio was full and busy. We found many of the items on menu didn’t align with the pictures we saw on the stands, but turns out they weren’t on the English menu. We got the seafood rice, which took more than 30 minutes to arrive - but when it did it felt like it was raining mussels. There might have been more mussels than rice, to be honest. If you’re looking for incredible bang for buck on seafood - that’s the dish you want. Skip the formal mussels appetizers. It’s small and only came with 5 mussels.

Nothing can excuse that they are scamming customers during payment (possibly unknowingly, or out of ignorance). When paying by card, they use a terminal that uses shady tricks to force you to pay in your native currency with a high surcharge and extremely disadvantegous exchange rate. That by itself is inexcusable. However, what's worse is the ignorant staff, which do this on your behalf, although you very explicitly point this out and choose to pay in the local currency (EUR). In our case, the surcharge was about 10 EUR for formerly 90 EUR bill. After pointing the failure to the staff, all they do is smile in your face, saying "You're good with that, yay?". I have no patience to deal with incompetent people, so I gulp this one and give others an advice: Go...
