You can get better quality everything for same or lower price [up to half of what they charge here] just walking bit futher. TLDR: tourist trap - do not recomend.

Food : flavourless and uninspired. Best tasting things was bread [they didnt bake it], a boiled potato, some shrips and avocado. Other vegatables, souces, fish and ugh that crepe was lackluster to say the least. They try to compensate with huge portions and hidding behind "traditional" naming. Neither of our group liked any orders they got. And we were after long hike ravaging for food. Dessert should have been deserted all together. I asked for fruit salad with icecream got a cone of icecream, a banana, half of an apple, half of orange [with peal pieces still left on coners in some pieces], and two tiny pears. For 10€. Effing scandalius. Any icecream joint gives you two cones for 3. If you go there for 10+ option youre getting a feast. This is ripoff. Drinks where overpiced too [again prices not in the menu].

Toilet: One toilet sink didnt have soap nor water. The other didnt have a tap at all. So um...

Service: waitress either missed when told or ignored a part of an order twice. Also gave me a bent [by design] butter spreding knife to eat with. Like how am i suppose to cut with it.

Presentation: Half of things are not mentioned in the menu. Like wines, side dishes, etc. Main courses prices are average but everythings else is charged separitely in what i consider premium sums.

Interior: poor. First of all place need renovation. From old utensils to very sad aquarium with two poor gold fishes trapped in it. Not a great atmosphere. Might have been good in seventies i guess. Its not rustic, retro or authentic. Its just neglected.

As of day five - worst most expensive dinner yet....

We were a couple and had dinner last night (May 2022). Our experience was not good. I will write the reasons. This restaurant is located in Zona Velha of Funchal where many arts of door.

Cons: The serving time took so long. It was almost 1 hour if I was not mistaken. We got so bored. We did not know what to do while waiting for our food. My partner wanted a sangria, but when the drink served it was only a wine with the lemon skins. He complained and the man took the drink. In the end, he changed his drink to ice tea. The price of drink (a can of coca cola and ice tea) was the most expensive price we paid. It costed us €2,20 each can (€4,40 in total). It was our fault, we didn't check on the menu before asking because we thought the price would not be more than €2. We paid only €1,60 - €1,90 for a can of coca cola in the restaurant where we ate before in Madeira. The salad could have better variety of veggies. The black couve tasted not good for me. The feijão was not good too. I didn't like the smell, so I didn't eat it. The soup had too much water.

Pros: The old man was nice and friendly. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The price is cheap for a complete food (soup, main food between meat or fish, salad, rice, feijão, batata, pumpkin, and a cup of coffee). It is only €9,50 The rice is tasty. The location is good (zona Velha of Funchal). Entrance accessible for wheelchair. Free restroom. Free wifi. They accept payment in cash. Dine-in only, no delivery. My sardinhas was tasty. My partner ordered espada with banana and...

Very dissapointing. Food with no flavor. The only thing that tasted good on my plate was potato. I ordered grilled tuna, which was a recommendation by a waitress. It was supposed to be medium, but it was overcooked, dry and unfortunately had no flavor at all, my friend who ordered the same was very disappointed too. It came with many different vegetables and side dishes and looked very promising, but everything just tasted plane. Tomato and onion soup was very bland, the only good thing was bread with garlic bread. Even though the price was good because we got a meal deal for 12.50€, soup, main dish, and tea, none of these were good.

Desserts were super overpriced. My friend ordered a dessert. It was fruit with ice-creme, though it was only banana and some oranges with ice-creme on top. Very simple, totally not worth 10€...

We sat inside because the rain was coming. The aquarium with some fish inside was next to us but looked ugly. It needs cleaning up.

One more bad thing on top, there was no water for washing hands in the toilet. The tap in the women's room didn't work, the main sink had no tap at all. I tried the man's toilet but there was no tap or sink eighter.

We were so disappointed we kept talking about it for quite some time that evening. Bad food and overall experience made us feel cheated. The food on a picture looks very good, but don't be traped, it tastes nothing like it looks.

The service was okey, but quite unprofessional would say. The waitress forgot our...

Great spot on the corner of Rua de Santa Maria and Rua dos Barreiros for people watching and watching cars come down the narrow cobblestone street. I stopped here for lunch and had their EUR 12,50 lunch menu which came with a starter soup, choice of protein (mostly fish options and pork chops) and plenty of sides (squash, rice, chick peas, pineapple, olives and cabbage). The food was tasty, and more importantly, the service was great. The gentleman who served me was friendly and attentive to me and my dining neighbours. When I went to use the toilet another staff member from the back of house made sure I found the light switch. The meal was completed with a small shot of Madeira wine. Overall I recommend for the good service and great value for money, especially in the middle of a very tourist heavy area. I left very full and satisfied.
