I think we had every member of staff come to the table at some point so it was difficult to know who was serving us. Two different staff struggled to tell us what was on the dessert menu and after finally ordering another waiter came and asked for our dessert order and we obviously explained we had ordered. 20 minutes later after chasing two staff the cheesecakes which clearly just needed plating arrived.
When the bill came there was water and a half bottle of something on the bill which we hadn't ordered so we pointed this out to the waitress. After 20 minutes and chasing for the bill it arrived still with the bottle of water on. I went to take the bill back inside and another waiter brought the "correct" bill and I had to point out that the water was still on the bill! Not one of the staff apologised and we left furious having wasted almost an hour sat waiting for dessert and the bill by that point.
We had octopus and limpets to start and unfortunately the limpets were overcooked and the worst we had during our holiday after ordering them at a few restaurants.
I had a prawn and squid skewer for a main which came with some side veg which whilst enjoyable was €17 euros and I thought was over-priced for the portion.
With a couple of beers the meal came to €70. The evening before we ate at Là ao Fundo, had two bottles of wine and 4 courses for €100 and both the food and service were excellent. We had also had a very similar local menu another night at Taberna Ruel for the same price and again the service and food were great in comparison. So this meal was really poor value for money and I would avoid...
Read moreAttention: it is not the restaurant posted on the google anymore!!!
this lunch was the worst I ever had since 15years.Fresh, fairness or delicious are not the points that the restaurant owner want to deliver. 12 small creamy (size 31-40) shrimps were sunk in green Öl and one “hot dog” big octopus arm was threw into some unknown sour water. The two costed 17 and 18 euro as starter, which may only cost for 5 euro in a regular restaurant!! With my fantastic here is the story: the owner was just dismissed from his job recently and he took over one dying restaurant less than a week before. In order to keep the finance in balance quickly, he finished his menu in one night and hair a group of new arrived immigrant, finally sold his virgin meal at the first day after Christmas! Unluckily we had been hitted only my road- blind husband mistook it to an another restaurant and fooled by the fish display counter, which stands in front of...
Read moreAuthentic menu, great place to visit if you want to experience local cuisine.
We visited twice, and found the service to be friendly and efficient. (Initially we were put-off by the overt attempts to persuade us inside—British people like to quietly look at the menu and decide whether to visit without persuasion, but this isn’t how they do things in Madeira! ) We were very happy to have found this restaurant. It is sometimes busy, so worth booking ahead (there is a private room that caters for large parties).
Our favourite was the fish platter, which had a range of locally caught fresh fish. The portion size suited me, my companion ordered extra bread. We started with soup (delicious) and ended with dessert that was set on fire!
A fun evening, with good food, and definitely worth visiting if you want...
