Sunrise Asian Fusion delivers exactly what its name promises—and then some. Come for the taste, leave with an experience.
We sampled across the map: Indian, Chinese, Japanese, and Nepalese dishes—all distinct, beautifully balanced, and executed with care. Each plate stood on its own but felt part of a broader story: one of culinary respect and confident innovation.
As someone deeply familiar with Indian cuisine, I appreciated how the team moved with quiet mastery—not just following tradition, but understanding it. Let’s just say, there are moments here that won’t be printed on the menu. You’ll have to go and experience them for yourself.
The service? Seamless. Thoughtful without being performative. Friendly without being overbearing. In a city of hits and misses, this place is a standout.
Sunrise Asian Fusion isn’t trying to be trendy—it’s just very good at what it does.
An essential visit.

MyDomingo Review: Sunrise Asian Fusion (Part II)
When consistency becomes a signature, you know you’ve found a gem.
Back for round two—and dare I say, it nearly topped our first visit. The steamed momo was a standout: delicate, flavour-packed, and true to its Nepali roots. Once again, this place delivered across borders—from India to Japan, Nepal to China—with surprising grace and harmony.
What impressed us most was not just the execution, but the consistency. Flavour, service, pacing—it was all there. A second visit that didn’t just meet expectations, it reaffirmed the first one wasn’t a fluke.
If you’re still thinking “fusion” means watered-down, think again. This is Sunrise, and they’re doing it their way. Come for the food. Leave with a renewed belief in...
Read moreAfter a bit of a stressful day, sushi felt like the right kind of comfort. We’d just come off the cable cars and this place caught my attention thanks to its high ratings. On arrival, we were warmly welcomed by a really lovely gent polite, relaxed, and full of good humour. He gave us plenty of time and made the whole experience feel easygoing.
To start, I had a miso soup which was a nice surprise it came with fresh shrimp instead of the usual tofu and seaweed. The portion was really generous and I actually really enjoyed it.
For mains, we ordered a sushi boat to share. It's always a bit of a gamble going for the boat or a set selection, because you can end up with a load of veggie rolls. In hindsight, I probably should have just ordered individually. I also asked for a Dragon Roll with avocado, but I’m not sure whether I got the right one—there was no avocado, so maybe I did, or maybe I misordered.
The server was the highlight, so friendly and kind. He mentioned he'd recently moved from Nepal and opened this place, and even encouraged us to come back and try their Indian food one evening. Personally, I’m always a bit cautious when a place covers two big cuisines under one roof, and I stuck to sushi this time. Based on reviews, that might’ve been the right call.
My mum really enjoyed it and was happy with her meal. I’ve been to quite a few Japanese restaurants, so for me, the food was okay, nothing wrong with it, just not particularly memorable. The experience was lifted by the service. A sake option would have been a nice touch, but the drinks menu was quite limited.
Overall, a decent meal with great service, but not somewhere I’d rush back to purely...
Read moreThis was our first time in Madeira and based on the calibre of the Google reviews we chose Sunrise Asian Fusion and were ABSOLUTELY delighted!! - we wanted a sushi restaurant but loved the fusion concept Nepalese/Japanese/Chinese cuisine - there is a clear dedication to using excellent ingredients and the chef is skilled in creating great flavours - the sushi was skilfully done - we shared the ‘sushi boat’ which was delicious, eye-catching and varied , we had the samosas which were served open and deep-filled with an aromatic tasty filling and a crispy outer pastry that seemed to be baked rather than deep fried so far less oily than your usual Indian restaurant. My husband declared them to the ‘the best samosas he’s ever eaten in his life’ - our daughter had the Butter Chicken Curry & rice and also said it was delicious- aged 9 she almost completely devoured her adult portion! Our elder daughter had the Tiger Roll and refused to share it with any one of us and ate every piece - she said it was incredible. We were too full for dessert so cannot comment but will almost certainly be returning to Sunrise Asian Fusion once more before we leave Madeira! Another point we noted was that within the bustling restaurant was that many other diners had clearly visited before and were greeted very warmly by “Parmod”, the owner as returning clients. The servers were all very friendly, personable and attentive and the food came very quickly. I can unreservedly recommend this restaurant to anyone after a tasty meal in a...
