Sem Rumo Restaurant — Restaurant in Funchal

I visited this restaurant for the first time in January, I think, right after the opening. I didn’t particularly like it but decided not to leave a review at the time. However, after seeing so many enthusiastic reviews recently, I decided to give it a second chance.

I started with the shrimp salad. In reality, it’s not a salad at all but a mayhem of sliced cucumbers, strawberries, pineapples, and tomatoes - which don’t go together at all, to say the least. For the main course, I had fish, but it turned out to be dry and tasteless.

Overall, it’s just an ordinary restaurant, and I don’t understand how it gained any popularity at all. It’s definitely not the best food on Madeira. I usually don’t leave reviews, but maybe I should start - Madeira offers a wide variety of truly great dining options, and the amount of positive feedback this restaurant receives feels unfair to other places that go above and beyond to provide a great experience.

We'd been to this restaurant before and didn't like it, but after reading reviews where people go there five or six times per visit, we decided to go again, especially since they promise a 30% discount when you order in advance. But this visit was our mistake. The tough lamb was covered in some kind of jam. They didn't give us the discount we were promised when ordering, and they didn't give it to the table next to us either. We had to point this out. It seemed like a system: they promise you a discount, bring the bill without it, and hope you won't notice. After that, they didn't give us 30 euros in change. This is one of the best—if not the best—restaurants on Madeira. Everything during our visits was absolutely perfect. From the best bolo do caco I’ve had on the island and refreshing lemonade, to delicious octopus and perfectly cooked steaks—every dish was outstanding. The service was always phenomenal: warm, attentive, and professional.
