Restaurante China Town — Restaurant in Lagoa

We came here looking for a takeaway option as we were craving a night in and curious to see if it would be much different to our Chinese at home.

The service when we came in to order was friendly and efficient, even allowing us to add on a tub of curry sauce which was not directy on the menu.

We are also both vegetarian which can make finding good meals out tricky, but there were a good number of options here for us, more than the other more popular Chinese nearby which was why we chose this restaurant instead.

The prices were extremely good value, especially in comparison to most other restaurants when you are used to eating out on holiday.

Our food was ready in just 15 minutes, tasted fresh and was just as tasty as home (if not better!) We were surprised by the curry sauce as it was very different to what we are used to, but it too was very good.

The service was pleasant and attentive, and so I write this with a heavy heart. The food was mediocre. The portions match the price so don't expect normal portions like in the US (which is fine since you won't need takeaway containers). A soup for 3.5euros is soup in a cup. I'm used to soup in a bowl for everyone to share. The chicken and corn soup was mostly broth with lots of al dente corn. The sweet and sour pork was 10 pieces of bland, deep fried, mostly battered pork. The fried rice was bland as well. Just scrambled egg in rice. They should add msg to it. Msg isn't as bad as people have made it to be. All in all, if you needed a break from the regular food in the area, it's not a bad place to cleanse your palette. But it'll make you miss...

Update May 2024: Had another great meal at Restaurante China Town. We had Battered Prawns in honey, Kung Po pork, Chicken & Cashew, Special Fried rice, white rice, chips, prawn crackers, bottled water and a nice bottle of wine. Again it was a great meal and the staff are all very nice. €49 not bad either!
