Amazing surroundings with decent food, but let down by the service.
My partner and I visited 28 Cafe after visiting Castelo de S. Jorge. We were very impressed with the look of the cafe, which is an old tram, and there were a variety of meals to choose from.
We both ordered an omelette, my partner ordered the plain one and I ordered one with ham and shrimp. Unfortunately it took around 35 minutes to arrive and both omelettes came with the same filling, which only I ordered. Due to my partner's religion she cannot eat pork nor shellfish, so hers had to be returned and thankfully it didn't take long too long for another to arrive. The omlettes were tasty, the fries and salad that accompanied them were so, so, but the highlight for me was the sangria I ordered, which was exceptional.
The major downside was one of the waiters who had an air or arrogance about him and almost made us feel like he was doing us a favour by dining there. He firstly rudely told us where we had to sit, and when passing he did not smile or ask how are meal was. At the end of the meal we were rudely directed to the pay station and again, we were not made to feel welcome. The lady also serving us was very polite though.

Read moreI've never liked trip advisor much. I seem to disagree with the reviews from them. This cafe has stickers all over proudly showing they are trip advisor recommended. Maybe that's a good hint, if you like trip advisor normally this could be your place. It wasn't mine.
It's ok. Just ok. You need to know that you won't die from eating here, it won't make you feel like you've wasted your day. However, you also need to know how much better food there is available.
For convenience while up at the castle, sure. For the cool interior (looks like the inside of a tram), sure. For food, pastry, prices, no.
The pastel de nata was boiling lava hot with butter leaking out, which I'm fairly sure means microwave, and the croissant was toasted bread shaped like...
Read moreMy family and I went to visit the castle last month and after having a busy morning there, we stumbled across 28 Cafe. We had a wonderful time, the interior is incredibly well done as it replicates the famous lisbon trams. The iced coffees were great and nicely presented. My kids got a milkshake which was quite good and refreshing. For food, we got the toasts, these were huge and very filling. Not only were they delicious and fresh but the value for food was very good. We also tried the cafe's specialty burger which again very tasty. I have only good things about this place, great location, great people and a great atmosphere. Very enjoyable experience, would...
