A Valenciana restaurant — Restaurant in Lisbon

This is definitely local spot, full of locals wanting lots of decent food at a good price and on that it does deliver. They do have and English menu but not as easy to order, there may have been some confusion or language barrier, we ordered the Piri-Piri Chicken ( bbq chicken) full order which is a whole chicken to split. It’s served family style, and comes with rice and fries. We also ordered the bread/cheese starter, they charge you for every little thing, butter, cheese and bread, but at least it does not cost too much and was good. As for our meal I ordered the salad and grilled veggies too but again there must have been a misunderstanding since they never showed up and we were not charged for them. As it was there was still too much food for both of us to finish. The chicken was alright on its own with a little spice but you can add more, although I did not find it as spicy as some. The rice was bland, and the fries/batatas fritas on point. All in all it was ok, a good amount of decent food for a good price, but if you want really spectacular Piri-Piri chicken maybe try else where, like O Churrasco. It was also...

Came here as part of a tour bus, so for considerations sake, they prepared food in bulk for 37 people but were notified with a reservation ahead of time.

We were served salad, rice, fries, and their rotisserie chicken. It was food and that's about it really. Most of the dishes were underseasoned.

Thought it was about odd that this was considered a traditional restaurant, but a third of what we ate were underseasoned rice and fries.

The chicken was definitely succulent and tore off the bone easily, it just didn't taste like much. Rather bland. The peri peri oil also didn't help much, a lick of heat and then it's gone. No tartness from the chilies as it's just oil and no flavor imbued onto the dishes.

At the very least, the owner who hosted us was hearty and friendly. He definitely tried to be a good host and I can't fault him on that.

As a tourist visiting Lisbon, I was eager to explore the city’s renowned hospitality and culinary excellence, so I decided to call Restaurante A Valenciana to make a reservation. I greeted the staff politely in Portuguese and kindly asked if it was possible to communicate in English. What I received in return was, frankly, astonishing. The person on the other end responded with a curt “no” – twice – before promptly hanging up the phone.

I must say, this has been the most spectacularly poor customer service experience I’ve encountered so far during my time in Lisbon. As a visitor genuinely interested in experiencing the best the city has to offer, this interaction was nothing short of disappointing. For a restaurant with such a celebrated reputation, one might reasonably expect a modicum of professionalism and courtesy – perhaps even the bare minimum of decency. Alas, this was clearly too much to hope for.
