An absolute gem. From the moment I walked in, the owner’s warmth set the tone—genuinely friendly, full of positivity, and clearly devoted to giving guests more than just a meal. The vibe was effortlessly chill: smooth jazz in the background, a dreamy little space with a view of the church that felt straight out of a novel. Even though the place is small, it carries a big heart.
I sat outside on the curb, no traffic noise at all, just peace and atmosphere. It was the kind of setting that makes you forget time altogether.
And the food—what a revelation. I had the recommendation of the day, chose spiciness level 3 and it was perfection. Balanced, flavorful, the spice giving just the right kick without ever crossing into overwhelming. One of those dishes that leaves you both satisfied and wishing you could somehow bottle it up and take it home.

We were there at 5PM and only one other person there but both staff were very friendly and welcomed us, speaking excellent English and sharing English menus. We had 2 bottles of local beer and shared a Hawawshi Classic (meat, cheese, spices.... think a breadier quesadilla with middle eastern spices)... all for just 12 Euro. Fun logo, cute little restaurant car out front, and a few tables with chairs and umbrellas. I saw one table inside and not sure if they have restrooms. They had a lot of tasty looking desserts but we didn't try this time. Overall friendly place and a great stop for a nice...
Read moreThis cafe in Lisbon with a view of The National Pantheon is a hidden gem! I went in for their Basbousa Pistachio dessert and coffee, which was so, so good!! I asked one of the owners Manel about a vegetarian dinner option & she said no problem, called out what ingredients she had in the kitchen & said what she could make me for later that day, which I hugely appreciated ❤️ After that dish, it then led to a dinner plan of Egyptian & Tunisian dishes for the week 😊 Manel & Ahmed went above and beyond for me with Ahmed even stocking up on Rosé wine 😃 & I ate dishes that I had never heard of, or had eaten before & let’s be honest, will only ever have them at Basbousa Cafe! Their signature dish is the Hawawshi now available in a vegetarian and vegan option. Don’t walk to...
