After 10 days of Portuguese food on vacation, we decided to try Indian in Portugal. This place was EXCELLENT. FOOD: we picked a range of dishes (see pics). All were fresh and cooked perfectly. The meats were succulent and spiced to perfection. The portion sizes were good for sharing. The garlic naan was extra tasty with a hint of crisp. We were thrilled with the quality of the food. My daughter also had a pizza that was good. Crisp crust.
SERVICE: the service was outstanding! The wait staff all worked together, helping with the orders, refilling drinks, clearing the table. Our waitress was happy to suggest items and also caution about spice level for the kids. Another waiter brought my husband a special green chili oil without us asking because he knew we toned down the spice for our kids. The chili had a great kick! They kept our drinks filled and checked on us often. What was also fascinating was hearing the Indian waitstaff deftly transition from English to Portuguese to Punjabi and back depending on what customer walked in. Truly impressive.
KID FRIENDLY: this restaurant has a huge pizza menu for kids that don’t want to eat Indian food. That leaves the parents to enjoy the food and the spice level! The wait staff were very attentive and helpful with our kids.
The restaurant was beautifully decorated and had clean bathrooms. There is a large bar and outdoor seating area as well.
There are 3 of these restaurants around Lisbon and we are tempted to check the...
Read moreBeware. One of two Lisbon restaurants we went to during our one week stay, where the server will insist that you give them a favorable review when you ask for the check - as they are standing there. Some guests might feel forced to comply in order to avoid an uncomfortable situation.
The food at this restaurant, however, is quite good at this price point, which made us go back for a second time (which was when the server presented us with a QR code to give them a good review). We would happily have gone back for a third time, had they not tried to force a positive online review from us.
Another issue with this restaurant is that the staff seems like they would rather be anywhere else. They seem genuinely miserable. No smiles or friendly exchanges of words to be had. One server dropped a bottle cap on the floor, and proceeded to kick it around instead of picking it up. One of the male servers also had bad body odour, which is not great in a restaurant.
On the second visit we also felt very rushed, and somewhat unwelcome, despite having made a reservation, and the restaurant being far from full.
I would recommend this restaurant for the food, but not for its atmosphere or level...
Read moreI ordered from Bengal Tandoori Lisboa via UberEats because of their “Buy 1 Get 1 Free” offer. A few days ago, I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and Tandoori, and everything arrived as expected — two curries, two portions of rice, and two tandooris.
Today, I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala with the same offer. While I received two curries, only one portion of rice was included. I called to ask about it, and the person was rude from the start. He said the rice last time was “free” and that I should have ordered extra rice this time. There was no polite explanation or attempt to help.
As an Indian, I know every curry comes with rice. I didn’t realize ordering curry meant I needed a degree in telepathy to know what comes with it. When a basic part of your meal like rice becomes an extra you have to pay for, and the staff treats you rudely when you ask, it’s obvious this place cares more about saving money than giving customers a proper meal and good service. Don’t do these offers if you can’t deliver...
