EPAL: Águas de Lisboa — Local services in Lisbon

I went in today to update the name on the contract to my name based on a lease I recently signed. I know only very basic Portuguese as I've just arrived so I was naturally hesitant about the level of service I'll receive.

Clearly, I had nothing to worry about. This was one of the smoothest experiences I've ever had in the office of a services company.

The office is in a great location right on Av. Liberdade. You walk in and punch in what you need into the kiosk to generate a coupon (you can switch the kiosk to English) and then wait for your turn on the screen in the halls to your left.

The office is big, spacious and quite modern.

My coupon was called in less than 3 mins and I walked up to the counter. I immediately excused my poor Portuguese language skills and asked the gentleman if he can help me in English. He was so kind and helpful. He quickly asked for my documents, explained the process and within 10 minutes everything was done. He was very patient with my questions and handed me a piece of paper confirming the change.

I left the office not just satisfied with the resolution, but also happy at receiving such great service! I didn't get the name of the gentleman, but thank you Sir and kudos to the entire EPAL head office team.

So if you want water with Epal, you need to be waiting 4h for the technician to arrive (they say they will come between 10am and 14pm. The technician calls you only when he arrives and pressures you saying that if you are not there in the next 15min, he’ll leave. It causes you to drive super fast to be on time and it’s dangerous. Organize yourself. Ask the technician to call 15min BEFORE he arrives. People work, people can’t hang around in a place without water (and usually without electricity then) 4 HOURS to wait for a grumpy technician. This will save time and energy...
