While the pastries were very delicious, the service was extremely unpleasant at Camoes. I went here on a weekday around 9 am and the store was bustling hence a lot of people were seated and standing around the counter - either to order or to consume their purchases.
Lines were very unorganized and the staff couldn’t keep up with the influx of people. Everyone was just cutting in line everywhere and the staff didn’t communicate properly with each other. Things got sold out as people ordered. When I visited there were a lot of tourists as well so the language barrier might have made service harder and slower.

The atmosphere felt very welcoming, and it appeared to be a popular spot among locals.
The lady staff was exceptionally friendly and took the time to explain the menu to us, ensuring we understood the dishes and got exactly what we wanted.

We went a few times. Once for lunch and once for a morning coffee and pastry.
Each experience was very pleasant and friendly. I’d say “no frills” but I don’t want to diminish what they do here. Appears to me that they serve the neighborhood and local community exactly what it needs.
If you’re visiting Lisbon and want the opportunity to just have a great meal and take a break from the throngs of people that are apparently in this town to recreate the Portlandia brunch episode (why?!), then bring a smile and take a seat at this place and enjoy a nice home cooked meal and a beer and a wine and a coffee and a Kinder chocolate bar if you need it.
The pasteis de nata we’re our favorite here. Less sweet than the super popular places...
