🇬🇧 During my stay in Portugal, I wanted to try something a bit more unconventional and came across this spot offering stuffed potatoes with a variety of interesting fillings. The concept struck me as truly original – taking a simple ingredient and elevating it into a complete meal thanks to the chefs’ creativity.
What caught my attention right away was the atmosphere and the way the food was prepared and served. You can actually watch the entire process of preparation right in front of you, which gives the experience a nice street-food vibe. The kitchen is open, so you see everything – from the baking of the potatoes to the final filling with different kinds of meat, cheese, vegetables, or sauces. Visually, it looked very appealing, which was one of the reasons I decided to try it.
I ordered one of their recommended options, which cost about 8€. To be honest, I was a little disappointed with the portion size – it was essentially half of a large baked potato with a generous helping of filling. Taste-wise, it wasn’t bad, but I personally wasn’t blown away. The flavor was a bit unusual – a combination of ingredients that didn’t quite work for me. That said, I understand these are typical Portuguese flavors, and it might just be a matter of personal preference. It’s very possible that others will enjoy it much more.
On the positive side, I appreciated the overall vibe of the place – the staff was friendly, the environment clean, and the food preparation quick and well-organized. For tourists who enjoy trying new and unique local dishes, this could definitely be an interesting culinary experience. I also liked the fact that you could record the preparation process – it adds an authentic touch and makes the visit feel more special.
In conclusion, even though the taste wasn’t exactly to my liking, I’m glad I tried it. I would still recommend giving it a shot – you might just discover a new favorite dish. And even if you don’t, it’s still a fun and original taste of the local cuisine.
A i kdyby ne, bude to minimálně originální a nevšední ochutnávka z místní...
Read moreThere are several of these little places but we went to the small take-out just outside the entrance to the castle (Sao Jorge). They serve “Bolinhos de bacalhau” - otherwise known as cod fritters – and they are delicious. The ingredients are simply cod, potatoes, eggs, parsley, and olive oil. As such, they’re gluten-free and when we asked to be sure of this, we were pointed to a window where the different ingredients were tastefully displayed. They make a charming snack either before or after going into the castle. Different styles of port are also served to accompany the delicate flavour of the fritters. They’re simply served and can be eaten while you walk, or as you stand at small tables just outside the shop. They have several other locations...
Read moreOur friend Liz talked to us into trying The Portuguese Experience at this stand-up outside only eating establishment. We had been put off by the look of it being touristy. It was also expensive.
It turned out to be a great experience. The yummy port and fishcake were served in a artists pallet-like holder with the dated glass hanging in a, which permitted food and drinks be held in one hand. This was convenient for the limit tables outside. I made it easy to fist pump with the many people that we got speaking. It was fun to watch the making the fish cakes act out to the many people taking photographs and...
