We just experienced the greatest meal in Lisbon on our last night. Recommended by hotel staff the culinary journey left us speechless and gasping at how delicious every bite was. Joana guided us through the menu and painted a picture of what each item was, she was honest and knowledgeable and provided us with just the right information for us to make a decision.
The table bread, garlic butter and olives were a great start. The Seafood Pica Pau was literally P E R F E C T I O N. It was a medley of tender shrimp, melt in your mouth octopus and grilled sea bream in a broth with pickled vegetables, the serving was generous, every bite brought excitement for the following bite. The bread served as the perfect way to savour the broth. The Tuna Taco was heaping in portion and in flavour. It was a creamy ‘ceviche’ in a crispy shell offered a tasty balance of fresh tuna sprinkled with lime juice. The Steak was perfectly grilled to medium with just the right amount of salt and fat. It delectably melted in your mouth. The mixed green salad with grilled strawberry was a surprising complement. The fries were pretty much a golden goddess of potato, seasoned with herbs. The fries were crispy and steaming hot and full of rich flavour. I was looking forward to dessert, since everything we tried were near perfection I knew that dessert had to be amazing. The Chocolate Mousse as recommended by Joana was H E A V E N L Y. It was silky and velvety and rich and a contrast to the peanut crunch and sponge topping. Thank you to the team at Mae for taking us through this culinary journey and as the best meal experience in Lisbon and a perfect last meal...
Read moreIt’s hard to put into words just how good this restaurant is. Without exaggeration, this place was the highlight of my family’s trip to Portugal. Every bite was a revelation and the service was warm, helpful, and made us feel like we were welcomed as family. Every aspect of the meal evidenced attention to detail and passion for providing delicious food.
The duck rice was richly creamy and warmly comforting with a hearty portion of duck. The octopus was innovative and perfectly tender (paired with candied pears that took this dish to a whole new level). The grilled codfish had a beautiful presentation and variety of textures that made it a complex delicacy. And the grouper in rice had a zing in flavor that made it the perfect cold weather comfort.
I am confident that you can’t go wrong with whatever you order here. And finally, another huge shout out to the staff. The manager, Joana, offered delightful recommendations and made us feel at home. And all of the waiters brought humor, professionalism, and care to the dinner.
This is not a place to be missed- and in fact is a reason in itself to come to Lisbon. I’m eager for the next...
Read moreThis is an absolute hidden gem! We didn’t have a reservation but the accommodating manager gave us the opportunity to sit outside - which was just as pleasant!
We got to know about the concept (food cooked with love, just like a mother does) and the changing menu. We picked the tuna tacos and the pani puri for starters, as well as the prawn rice with fish on top for mains. For drinks we picked the sangria and the cucumber sour.
This was undoubtedly one of the best meals we have had while visiting Lisbon. The fish was always perfectly cooked, soft and served in an inviting and innovative way. The main course was especially comforting with a twist of sophistication. The drinks had a smooth mouthfeel with undertones of flavor - especially the sangria with undertones of grapefruit, cinnamon and mint.
To top it all, the service was absolutely on point. Despite sitting outside, we were not forgotten at all and felt very well taken care of. I look forward to...
