“NO INTERNATIONAL CREDIT CARDS!” “Only Portugal 🇵🇹 banks.” 🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨
(This is a direct quote of what the host/manager informed my family at THE END of our meal, as we pull out our Black Mastercard to pay.)
Are you kidding Maçã Verde? Beyond unprofessional. It’s 2025, CARDS dominate virtually all business transactions globally. Plus you’re located in one of the largest tourist districts in Lisbon. Open your eyes and please join the 21st century.
When questioned why he wouldn’t accept my international Mastercard, or why I wasn’t advised of this the moment I started ordering in ENGLISH, he points to ONE tiny white paper- posted by the bar that simple states, “no visa.”
This “no visa” sign is all but lost in the sea of cluttered decorations, and ancient newspaper articles hung on literally EVERY space of wall and window.
Perhaps someone should write in proper English:
“NO INTERNATIONAL CREDIT CARDS ACCEPTED”
(Feel free to copy and paste the 👆🏻 line above Mr. Manager, and update that pathetic excuse of a sign- for the sake of clarity and transparency.)
The manager next asks me to go walking down the street, to a sketchy ATM, to pull CASH out on his dark and desolate street at almost 10:00pm. Cheers again, right?
Well my friends- That’s the kind of customer service (or lack thereof) others should hear about long BEFORE they get to experience it first hand.
The final nail in their coffin, or more appropriately mine— The sardines were average at best (there is a much better and more famous place to be found here in Lisbon, no doubt.)
So I retrieve some cash, and pay the bill-does he wish me a good evening? Mmmm, not a chance. Instead he SLAMMED the door behind my wife and I, along with our TWO YOUNG CHILDREN. Where did this man receive his education?
Epic fail, all around. Take care international travelers, you most likely will be let down.
Good luck...
Read moreWhile travelling solo in Lisbon, I was desperately trying to find a restaurant with a cozy and authentic atmosphere and this was definitely it. I dropped in around lunch time, the place was filled with locals but the waiter was very accommodating and made me feel comfortable from the start. The menu was simple, mostly fresh fish, a side of potatoes and a salad. They also had a great amount of desserts on display which I did not try. The food, however, was incredible. Fresh fish, nicely seasoned, really good olive oil to accompany the potatoes and salad. Nothing more I needed. I was very lucky that they were serving my favourite Mediterranean fish, sardines so I had to try them. I have to say they are incredibly tasty in Portugal and they exceed what I had tried before. I absolutely adored this place and I recommend it if you're...
Read moreMEAN!!! MEAN!!! MEAN!!!! Both the owner and the waiters YELLED at a very old man. He only wanted to sit a few minutes to rest. He clearly could not walk well, bent with age, and breathing hard.
They DID NOT CARE!
He tried to buy a drink, but they would not sell him one, or let him drink the one his worried companion brought from the market next door. They would not even take money to use the table, even though 5 were empty!
They actually made him sit on dirty train station steps across the street!!! He nearly fell over trying to sit on the low steps. They STILL did not care.
To top it off, local men were HARASSING women walking by. Not just whistles, they yelled and cursed at them!!!! The waiters and owner said NOTHING.
Deeply disgusted.
They don’t deserve...
