Tl;dr: This place gave me and my friend food poisoning on our last day in Lisbon. He was okay after 12 hours but it triggered a flare-up of my ulcerative colitis and associated auto-immune problems (reactive arthritis) which I am still suffering with almost a week later.
We spent our final full day in Lisbon exploring the Alfama district and stopped here for a late lunch (14:00) before taking the train back to Chiado. The cafe was busy, it being lunchtime and close to a university department, so we waited a while to get served. We'd been advised by someone we'd met the previous day to try a Francesinha sandwich before we left, so that is what we ordered, plus beer of course.
The food duly arrived. As neither of us had eaten this monstrosity before we were unsure about what to expect, but it was only just warm, not hot, which did make me a bit suspicious, given the many kinds of meat and dairy in it, but we were hungry and ploughed on. The sauce was certainly tasty but definitely not the "near-boiling" temperature that Wikipedia suggests it should be!
My friend started feeling unwell a few hours later and had to make several unanticipated trips to the bathroom. He left for his flight that evening feeling nauseous and looking very pale. I myself had one more night in Lisbon so stayed at the hotel, where by ~21:00 I was also feeling unwell with stomach cramps, nausea and diarrhoea which went on throughout the night, leaving me in a dreadful state for my flight the next day.
Be careful about what...
Read moreAbsolutely shocking tuna steak. Tasted sour and didn't even have a crust. Tasted old and canned. When we told the staff they just took the plate and left without asking what we want after. Then the staff even got mad at us and kept saying it was normal. They forced us to pay for it even though the first page of the menu said that they won't charge for inedible food.
Edit: we got food poisoning from the tuna. Would love to get some form of justice for what happened but our flight leaves tomorrow and we have to travel home sick.
Answer to their reply: One person from our party who ate more of the abomination of what this restaurant calls a perfect tuna steak, got the food poisoning the worst. Two others got it mild. Also you commented on us not eating the meal but not considering the fact that the food is actually inedible, you call it perfect but just look at the picture, absolutely shocking. Also the fact that a customer servant gets mad at the customer is so...
Read moreWent there the first time and ordered a burger which was not available. Ordered a sandwich which was also not available. So we left the restaurant and went somewhere else.
Unfortunately we went there a second time. This time I ordered olives and the sea—salad for €8,00, normal big salad was €3,,00. so i could expect something, right. Olives were simple not served, he said he forgot.... no sorry... Regarding the salad, in the menu it said Orange and cocktail sauce. Unfortunately it came with oranges, not orange and cocktail sauce. Since i dont like oranges, this was not to my benefit. Since it was a sea salad, it was supposed to come with prawns and crabs. Crabs were missing and afterwards i asked what happened. They told me that they had none.
Bad thing i had to pay the €8,00 for a salad which was missing the crab. Good thing, the olives they forgot at least did not appear...
