I hate leaving such a negative review, but it needs to be done.

We came back for a SECOND meal here. I wasn't massively impressed by the food the first time, but it seemed authentic, was tasty, and I wanted to try other dishes.

This was our very last night in Portugal (and we told the server as much). We ordered the cheese, which was very good, and the octopus, which was woefully rubbery, tough, and unsatisfying.

The server came over, asked how things are, and I figured I'd very gently tell her. She started arguing with me that this is how it's supposed to be (despite not trying it?! How do you know no one messed up THIS time? We'd had octopus many times before and this one was definitely the worst). It was a bizarre experience--even if she at least had taken some responsibility and apologized we would have been fine.

She told us she could take it back to the kitchen but would have to charge us for it.

It ended up being an awful, unpleasant, experience (she literally went from super nice to adversarial) and as such, I cannot in good conscience recommend this restaurant--there are plenty of other places where you'll get better food and service.

Literally ended up being the worst restaurant experience we had over several weeks...

Last week we visited O Vinhaça twice for lunch. After the first day we decided that looking for something different was an option, but we enjoyed the food, the service, and ambience so much that we wanted to go back again on our last day. Carlota, the young lady who is also the owner, does a great job! She can recommend you a suitable wine for the meal as well as your taste buds. We ate the tuna tartare, which is one of the finest you’ll ever eat. As well as the Muchama. Muchama is something particular that I’d highly recommend trying. It’s a tapas restaurant, so you’ll have a choice of several cold and warm options. Once your done enjoying the amazing tapas, there are several dessert options with ports to your liking. The location is nice, just on one of the smaller alleys in Alfama. I really want to thank Carlota for the nice experience we’ve had. While drinking a nice port at home, it brings back all the memories 😇. It is not the cheapest restaurant, but it doesn’t have to be. If you’re looking for something unique, very tasty and great service? Look no further! If you are looking for something cheap and quick? Look elsewhere. Whenever I’m back in Lisboa, there’s no doubt that I...

By far THE BEST place I ate, not only in Lisbon but all of Portugal. "Quality food, done simple and right. Let the food speak for itself" ~ Owner.

The food was incredible!!!!! Must try the octopus, steak, tar tar, sardines. I didn't know octopus could taste like that. The owner was soo nice, had a chat with us, walked us through the menu and wine, told us about his life, the restaurant, future plans with it and his passion and collection of wines (must ask about this). Unbelievable collection of wine as well if you want to take a bottle with you when you go.

We found this place on our second of five nights in Lisbon and honestly I would have ate there for the next three nights but he was booked and then closed. That said, we were extremely fortunate he had space on another night and we were able to eat their twice during our stay. The second time was just as good as the first, in terms of the quality, cook, experience, EVERTHING!

Don't go to Lisbon without a visit to this restaurant .......

Alheira com ovos: very traditional Portuguese dish with some greenery on side. It’s a pork, wild boar and dear meat sausage with egg mixed. It’s quite tasty but bit boring. Sardinhas marinadas: in vinegar marinated raw sardines with finely chopped beatroot makes together a very nice combo, however I find this option quite overpriced. Octopus: full octopussy with salad and patats. Here I have to say I had this already once before and it is the reason why I returned. This is probably the best octopus I ever had (ok second best but still very exceptional). Super duper well prepared, exactly how you want your octopus to be. Olive oil, olives and bread: olive oil nicely seasoned with salt and herbs, had little bitter aftertaste tho, olives were for me actually the most tasty and enjoyable part of the dinner, bread was just a random bread (would expect little more here) Water: have to mention water because it was really great tasting and exactly right temperature water. I loved the water big time!

What a fantastic little hidden gem - so close to the busy tourist streets but feels tucked away from the hustle and bustle. We were early in the lunch rush so were lucky to get a table outside, and enjoyed the thoughtful and comprehensive rundown of the menu in English from our server (wish we had asked her name, and seems like she may also be the owner). She was very attentive but didn't crowd us, made great suggestions on food and wine pairings, and deserves every penny of those tips as she's working bloody hard! We hadn't had Portuguese tapas before and are totally bought in as the food was top notch, really delicious and balanced with three tapas plus the cover (bread/oil/olives) and dessert being plenty for two hungry people. The grilled peppers were particularly good, and the berry crumble paired with a 20 year port deserves a special mention, definitely glad we took that recommendation! Would love to come here another time if we're in the area again!
