Something is terribly wrong with this branch! A shocking experience with the African staff who took my order and prepared them. He never smiled despite my several friendly tone of communicating and ordering. As if he knows me personally and has a grudge towards me! The entire time he put on an attitude with me when I started as friendly and with absolutely zero reason to be treated this way!
Then he took the teaspoon that he gave me from a strange corner in the cafe. I didn’t catch what he did. My latte had spills on the glass when he served it and never bothered to clean. He put the fork on the plate where my cake was without care that caused portion of my cake to crumble.
I informed the lady staff that I will just go to the WC and return to my table that still had some food for me to finish. She politely said yes, ok, sure. When I returned I was shocked she already cleaned my table and offered to return my food if I wanted.
Since the African male staff was giving me an attitude I smilingly asked the other staff for water and she was smiling and just pleasant.
This was a horrible experience and will write to Portela cafés about that...

My mom ordered the matcha latte, and I ordered an iced mocha (not on the menu but the great baristas made it for me). The shared chemex coffee for both my parents was absolutely delicious and a great way to kick off our morning here in Lisbon, Portugal.
Outdoor seating is an option and so is indoor. Mariana was our cashier and extremely helpful in answering our questions and taking our constantly changing order. There’s just so much to choose from.

Read morePortela Café is a true gem in Lisbon! The food is always fresh and beautifully presented, with a wide selection including our favorites like avocado toast and eggs. The coffee is outstanding—smooth, rich, and perfectly brewed every time.
What really makes the experience stand out is the service: the staff are warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, which made us feel at home right away. Everything runs efficiently, so even when the café is busy, you never feel rushed.
We also loved how easy it was to grab food and coffee to go—perfect for mornings when we wanted to explore the city. For us, this was hands down the best breakfast spot in Lisbon, and the fact that it was just a short walk from our hotel made it even more perfect. Highly...
