The food was delicious, the service left a lot to be desired. We didn’t have a specific server which meant a lot of dirty dishes piled up without being removed and drink orders were not taken etc. I’m not sure if this is their serving model or if they were just short staffed. The other challenging thing about our reservation was that we made it for a party of 3. When we arrived, our 3rd person was our 2 year old son. They attempted to seat us a table for 2 with him on the end. We expressed that we needed a larger table because he would be able to reach all of the dishes/break things/there wouldn’t be enough space for our meal. The person who seated us made us feel very guilty for this request and told us that because we asked for a table for 4 another table of 4 adults would have to be sat at the table they originally tried to seat us at. We still insisted on the larger table. About 30 minutes later a party of 2 was sat at the original table they attempted to give us. As a person who has worked in restaurants, this gave me a bad taste in my mouth. A child isn’t a half of a person, they deserve a full seat just like any other person would deserve. For this reason, I don’t feel I can recommend this restaurant for everyone. Anyone who isn’t dining with kids should be fine, but those dining with small children probably...
Read moreI stumbled upon this restaurant, and I really wanted to try it. Their social media posts were promising, and my expectations (as a Turkish-Amerixan who's eager to find a good joint for Turkish food anywhere in the world) were high.
Our overall schedule dictated our time to be able to experience this place, and we were there for a quiet Sunday late lunch.
Instead of main dishes, I opted for four mezes, two cold and two hot, and my daughter had mantı.
Köpoğlu, Girit Ezmesi, Mücver and Muska Böreği were all delicious. I actually was pleasantly surprised that my high expectations were adequately met! The mantı was really good as well.
I had a double Tekirdağ rakı as my beverage and our ever charming, knowledgeable server Afsara brought it "already mixed." I usually prefer to make my rakı myself, but, yet again, to my pleasant surprise, it was perfect!
The Turkish coffee was acceptable as well.
Afsara told us about how the vibe is completely different in the evenings, and the next time we're back in Lisbon where we have a free evening, I am dying to get back to Rumi Lisboa and bring some friends and family! I'll try the main...
Read moreRUMI has officially stolen our hearts… again! This was our second visit to this incredible Turkish-Palestinian restaurant in Lisbon, and it was just as spectacular as the first. The moment we stepped through the door, we were welcomed like old friends. The incredible owner, Ersin, remembered us from when they first opened 7 months ago, and he even recalled the little details of our experience, which is impressive hospitality!
We began with a trio of classic and delicious starters: the marinated olives, exceptional hummus, and smoky muhammara, all served with warm flatbread and fresh vegetables. Followed by the Adana kebab and the spinach manti dumplings. Every dish was memorable, layered with flavor, and served as an authentic reflection of the heritage behind the menu.
The ambiance at RUMI is warm and inviting, with an elegant, yet relaxed energy that makes you want to linger while soaking it all in. The service is attentive, gracious, and genuinely thoughtful, without ever being intrusive.
RUMI has quickly become one of our must-visit spots in Lisbon. We’re already planning our next visit… and the...
