Excellent food. The meat croquette is pleasant but simple on its own and delicious with the smokey mayo it comes with. The duck ngiri is tasty with the accompanying orange sauce, which you can use in the same way you'd normally use soy sauce. I do wish the orange sauce had a denser flavor. It was subtle, so I had to try and soak enough of it up into the rice. The best part of the meal was the fresh tuna main. One of the best dishes I've eaten in Portugal. The fish is fresh and cooked perfectly, not overdone. It's served with thin sliced vegetables, wasabi mayo, and a basil sauce. I wonder how they made the basil sauce, because it was jawdroppingly good. All the distinctive flavors and textures in this dish worked well together. I had the chocolate mousse for a dessert. It's very chocolatey, like brownie batter, but a little less sweet. There are crunchy cocoa crackers that come in the mousse. They don't really add much flavor to the dish, but the texture combo is nice. I had the coconut pandan cocktail to drink. The drink part was sour, and on top was slightly sweet coconut foam. When I got a sip with both components together, I enjoyed it pretty well. I probably wouldn't order this drink again, because I prefer sweeter cocktails, and this was definitely more sour. Their cocktail menu is creative and interesting.
The ambiance and decor are delightful. They were playing 80s dance music, including the Napoleon Dynamite dance song. On the walls are cute paintings of tropical plants...
Read morewhat a fantastic waste of time. i can understand coming in later in the evening without reservations on a friday makes it tough to seat a table for two. but the abysmal service while we were waiting—completely ignored and made to feel invisible—shows how little they value hospitality if you are not portugués. the example being the portugués couple that just walked in, similarly without reservations, and were served with menus and drinks while we had been waiting for 40 minutes.
(original estimate was 10 minutes, then wasn’t sure if a table was possible, then suggested being seated in the front, then unattended until we left.)
of course, by that time it was even more difficult to find a place that was open for serving food. truly a remarkably...
Read moreGreat Food, Perfect Service! I had set out to find a simple Portuguese Restaurant, but I had been looking in the wrong places. Passing the Sauvage I remembered a review about really Good Food. Okay, let‘s indulge ourselves, thought I. So I did! Not with a starter, but bread, oil, butter with pepper and a little fish with exquisitely seasoned garlic mayonnaise was all I was Hopkins for. In case of good food I promised myself dessert. The rooster fish was perfect, shrimp açorda, a side I hadn‘t tasted before, but was delicious. Dessert was hard to choose, but I settle for the cheesecake. Heavenly! Done with plum mousse and Madeira wine, a few crumbles instead of dough - really not of this earth. I...
