Restaurante Marisqueira Serpa Pinto — Restaurant in Matosinhos

My boyfriend and I arrived here one evening, took a look at the menu and decided to have the mixed seafood platter. It arrived very, very quickly and we were excited to have it because we had the same thing in Lisbon a couple of years ago and we enjoyed it very much. Some of the seafood did NOT taste fresh and the crab smelled strongly of AMMONIA. I told the waiter, he smelled it and said it was normal. I told him, seafood should not smell that way and he told the woman behind the counter. She came and smelled it and took it away. A little while later, she came back with a fresher crab but didn’t say anything when I thanked her. I felt bad for my boyfriend who wanted to take me out for a nice seafood dinner. I ate what was fresh, left the rest behind and decided to write this review so that people could make an informed decision about eating here. I would NOT return and do NOT recommend...

Small fish and seafood restaurant. We arrived early and got a table on the terrasse. It's on of these cubicle terrasse (sound bad, but it's nice especially when the weather is very hot). The waiter was very nice and friendly. We got petingas (small fried sardines), that were very good. Then we got the marisco Platters. A bit platter for two with amêijoas, camarões, sapateira recheada, precebes and mexilhões. Everything was fresh and tasty. It's not the fanciest seafood, but given the quality, it's difficult to find better for price (55€). It’s an unexpected good family run restaurant with best service. We were late for dinner, only this restaurant still welcome us friendly. The chef of waiter Daniel was very nice, patient and helpful to answer my bf’s 100 questions about food and wine at 21:30. The food portion is larger than we expected. My charcoal grilled octopus was delicious with fantastic red bean rice. Love it! My bf’s Turkey steak with fries is huge. He can’t even finish. The quality of food is outstanding.
