I was looking forward to my dinner at Cúmplice Steakhouse, after reading many wonderful reviews both on Google and elsewhere, but after last night, unfortunately, I left disappointed. The service was perfect, in spite of their concern with regard to leaving by the end of my designated window, from 7:15pm to 9:15pm, which I did. The complimentary drink was lovely, as were the rolls and assorted butters. For my ‘Starter,’ I chose the ‘TIM BURTON — Smoked burrata, lettuce mix, mizunas, duck smoked ham and balsamic strawberry sorbet, €14,’ and it was very good. For my ‘Grilled’ selection, I chose the ‘RIBEYE +250 GR — Good concentration of marbling that melts on the grill, giving a unique and juicy flavour, €30,’ cooked medium-rare, which my waiter said was the kitchen’s choice. The thin steak, sliced and plated on a metal serving tray in the kitchen had a lot of flavor, and the right amount of salt, although they did include a small dish of extra salt, and numerous reviews stated there was too much salt; if fresh pepper were available, I would have added some. Unfortunately, I found the steak very tough, and even removed a few bites that I couldn’t chew; the fat is always tasty, but I left at least half of the €30 steak on my plate, even though I picked through the entire serving. Read moreFrom the first to the last mouthful, the food on offer is simply a wonderful pleasure experience & joy for the senses and the appetite. Not a single steak that I’ve had has been anything short of spectacular, even when feel you can’t eat more, your brain orders you to move your hands and take another mouthful, and accompanied with honey roast vegetables, for anyone who doesn’t like vegetables, you’ll be eating vegetables at breakfast after this, that’s how good they taste and are perfect with these steaks!! The starter, smoked duck salad is beyond words and even with the portion being generous and looks like it’s enough to feed a family, it’s so light and easy, and scrumptious you won’t want to share it with anyone! To finish, the forest, an assortment of chocolates and cocoa, is so divine and luscious that if they take this off their menu, they would be committing a crime!!! Simply can’t be missed off and you will regret not adding it to end the spectacular start and middle of the dinner dishes. Too good, so good, I would visit the restaurant every time I’m in Porto just for it! Read moreThe place's atmosphere is great, upscale and cozy. Service was both really good (friendly and efficient) as well as surprising (with some delicious unexpected complimentary appetizers). We had seafood pasta and a starter that was really really tasty. Properly selected ingredients, and spot on seasoning. The cocktails we got were also well crafted and fairly priced. Unfortunately we had an issue with the ribeye we ordered which contrary to the other dishes was subpar (concentrated fat, and no marbling), especially considering the price point. We were nevertheless positively surprised by the staff who promptly acknowledged the issue and offered to replace the dish - even though we were already 70% into it. As we were not hungry anymore they offered to remove the dish from the bill and even offered a complimentary dessert - btw very well prepared and delicious. We wanted to pay for at least 50% of the dish since we had partially eaten it after all, as well as the dessert, staff however was adamant of not charging us which again positively left us with a wow impression! Mistakes can always happen, it is part of life and we are all human beings, but it's the way we handle these mistakes when they happen that set places apart.
