What a very upsetting experience!!! We were recommended to eat here by the owner of our hotel and I'm sure had she known how we would be treated she would never have done so!!!! We were ignored for a long time before being directed to the furthest corner of the room by a very unhappy waiter (I realise we should have left at this point) after a few minutes some food was placed in front of us, no explanation no conversation. We looked at the menu to find this was a cover. 15 minutes went past and our order taken. Our wine was brought opened and left. Our food came which was basic but OK, again nothing said. We felt very much we were an inconvenience to the waiter. Clearly we were not welcome there. Three young girls came in after us and they had better service including condiments and a smile!!!!!!! After our food, I wanted dessert and port but no one came!! 30 minutes went by and so we left our money on the table and walked out. We were up the road when the waiter noticed and we shouted back, payment is on the table. What an awful experience!!! Our last night was not a good night. I would like to add this was our 12th trip to various parts of Portugal and we have never experienced what felt very much like rascism before....

This used to BE a tradicional place at Porto where people used to gather, eat and drink something. Unfortunately it Lost all of his charm, maybe because the owner is very problemátic and creates bad atmosphere for the people that are around. Because I had left my job just a while ago and I still had pieces of performance make up (I forgot my Wallet at home while my partner went to grab some money, he was back in Ten minutes) the owner wanted to call the Police and he treated me badly. The Bill was around 10€. We still left a tip of 1€ before we left (which is funny because he would call the Police for 1€ like he Shout Many Many Times). I wont Be coming back to this place anymore and I advice anyone reading this to not go there either. Especially if you look poor (don't go with your working clothes- though its a very cheap restaurant-) if you are not portuguese, or if you dont look Nice and european....

I suggest you look through the various review platforms and take your custom elsewhere. Having just gone to the ATM and got 4 x 50 euro notes. I had no other notes in my wallet. I gave a waiter 50 euro and he gave me change for 10 and beat a fast retreat. When I challenged him he was prepared and pulled out a 10 euro note from his shirt pocket- he was wearing a money waist bag . Looking at other reviews this appears to be their usual practice, I suspect the whole staff were in on it - an old scam and guess what- they take no card payments. Shame on them and looking at the reviews not the first time. So if you do still decide to give these people your custom be aware, if you pay with a 50 grip their hand, look them in the eye and TELL THEM ITS A 50....

Supposedly this is a place with a lot of history in Porto. However, after visiting it, it maybe should've stayed in history. The food here is mediocre at best. The francesinha was not particularly special, the staff is rude and ignores its clients, the place itself is very old-fashioned, you share tables with other people so don't expect any privacy. What surprises me most is that they serve store-frozen fish... in Porto. That's a huge no! Avoid this tourist trap.

Omg, I am so glad to have a #local with me and to experience the real food like Bifanda (sandwich with spicy pork), caldo verde (soup with kale) and favaitos (alcohol drinks from North of Portugal) and enjoy the mirrored traditional restaurant. The reason they have mirrors is that in the olden golden days, young man and women couldn't flirt directly, so they elaboretly used mirrors to contact eachother. It is so romantic and nice.
