It has been a while since I went to a sushi place, and this experience was very disappointing. The service was very slow, it took more than one hour for a 50 pieces freestyle, and the restaurant was almost empty, just another couple besides our group (of 4 people) in a place with around 20 tables. The restaurant also lacked options in terms of drinks. They didn't have sake or other typical Japanese beverages, like a simple green tea. They also do not have any typical deserts. And now focusing on the quality of the food. None of the fish felt great to me, and it was a bit tasteless, but the worst thing was the Teriyaki sauce. They covered everything with that. The shrimp Yakisoba was covered with that and super extra sweet. We complained about this to the waiter, and she said that that dish was not supposed to be sweet... and a long time after, we got the 50 pieces freestyle. It was beautiful and had a lot of potential, but everything was super sweet. You could not appreciate the majority of the pieces, and you just felt the sweetness. When we left, the sushi man asked if we liked the pieces, and we shared that everything was extremely sweet for our taste, so he told us that we should return and try the traditional pieces, as those would not have Teriyaki sauce... We could notice that the waiter didn't know what to say and how to handle our sharing that everything was too sweet for us. They also didn't have an ATM, so we had to pay cash.

They don't like foreigners / tourists. Stay away ! A Portuguese local recommended this place to me so we came with high hopes. I tried to sample the sushi but they didn't want to serve me. It took 20 mins to place my order (they were not busy) and once I had ordered they deprioritized my meal preparation repeatedly to instead take care first of their portuguese customers. After 40 mins, when the waitress came out with my starters and gave them to the portuguese couple who arrived 15 mins after me, I got up, told her where she could shove her sushi and just left.. It was appalling. Pictures show the outside of the restaurant and my still empty table after 40 mins. Portugal is a lovely country but the xenophobia that you frequently encounter as a foreigner here when outside of the tourist areas, is disgusting. Take notice of the other reviews below. Those from portuguese speakers are glowing. Those from non-portuguese speakers (tourists?) are really critical.

We discovered this place at the beginning of January and have already been there 3 times this month! We tried a lot of different sushi in different countries (in Russia, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Armenia), but nowhere have we tried sushi with such an interesting taste. If you describe the taste in more detail, it’s like you’re floating, feeling first one taste, then another, and ending with the third. this is definitely the most interesting sushi in our lives at the moment :) the wait is not fast, but we usually order appetizers and then the set, so they bring everything to us in turn, and it turns out that you calmly enjoy each dish and at the end you are greeted by a dizzying set !

Bad service kills good food.

After walking up from the centre we were looking for a late dinner and ended up at Grand Honra. Place is on a busy road where cars drive quite fast so we chose indoor seating. Ordered some gyozas, sushi and beers….then the great waiting started. By the third time we asked for our beers, we got them. But, not before the waitress wanted to clarify agitated what language we spoke (English??? Spanish??? Portuguese???) Gyozas and first sushi came, then about an hour wait for the other sushi that we ordered. More people in the restaurant seemed to be waiting and unhappy. The waitress seemed untrained and unexperienced. Why is it so difficult for so many restaurant owners to properly train their staff? Tables were waiting to be cleaned for more than half an hour with only a few tables occupied.

The freestyle sushi made up part of the bad experience. All pieces were genuinely good. Too bad the waitress dropped a piece on the way because of being not properly trained by the restaurant owner.

No apologies for the long wait or bad service on the way out. Payment terminal didn’t work.

Sushi: 9 Service : 1

Read the review below on a difference in service for tourists vs. Portuguese….we also saw Portuguese people complain about the immensely long wait. Although we definitely didn’t feel super welcome here. Won’t add photos of all the dirty tables that were waiting...
