This chain of traditional Portuguese restaurants, with multiple locations across Porto, offers a welcoming and homey atmosphere. The decor is simple and cozy, and although the staff can seem a bit formal, the service remains attentive. However, the kitchen operates at a slower pace, which leads to extended wait times between courses.
We ordered the Monkfish and prawn rice (for two) and a grilled veal chop accompanied by delicious sides. Each dish was exceptionally flavorful, especially the rice soup, which was rich with broth and taste—so much so that despite only ordering two dishes, we couldn't quite finish it all. For dessert, we chose the 'Abade de Priscos' flan, which rounded off the meal nicely. With The Fork’s booking discount and drinks included, our total came to around 61 EUR.
If you’re looking to experience authentic Portuguese cuisine, this is an excellent choice. The portions are generous, and the prices are very reasonable. However, be prepared for a wait—our first course took over 50 minutes to arrive. Thankfully, the food was so enjoyable that the long wait...
Read moreA fantastic restaurant. Our food was outstanding and the wait staff were attentive and knowlegible without being intrusive. We had the birds nest and the cheese fondue to start and these were followed by the octopus and the sea bass all of which were great, washed down with a glass of the house wine called Oupa! which would appeal to Dutch or South African visitors. However the pudding took the cake. I consider myself a chocolate mousse aficionado and the mousse I had here was the best ever.
We were so impressed by the quality of the food and the friendliness of the staff that we chose to eat there twice more. We have now had the eLeBe salad, the Monk Fish as well as the country steak and the goat all of which were excellent. I couldn't resist the chocolate mousse for the third time but my wife had the flan. The latter was very interesting but completely different to the Spanish version. They also make a good sangrilla, both white and red!
I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough. It has been a privilege to eat such...
Read moreOK but not great. We went to eLeBe Baixa based on the reviews. I cannot say that we were disappointed but it was just ordinary. We did not have a reservation, so we were seated on the ground level, which is perfectly fine. The food was nothing to brag about. The trilogy appetizer (octopus salad, pheasant and sausage) is ok. Of the three, I thought the sausage was the best in terms of flavour/taste. My wife liked the pheasant. Then, we ordered baked cod for two. It is a substantial serving of fish prepared traditional way (as I understand). We both found the fish to be too salty (it is salted fish after all but should have been hydrated in milk). The dish was ok but nothing special. I give the place 3 stars. The service was fine, not attentive but friendly and responsive when we called on the waitress. The food was ok, not great, not bad. Having travelled globally and eaten anywhere from Michelin-rated restaurants to true hole in the walls, we thought the other reviews were too generous. This is our take on the restaurant, hope...
