Pizzeria Do Carmo — Restaurant in Sintra

Very welcoming staff, rather modern ambience and relaxed, not too loud modern music in the background. We had a pizza funghi, which was very delicious, the Carpaccio which I very much enjoyed and the cauliflower al forno. This one needs a little more explaining. What I expected was something like a casserolle dish with cauliflower and baked cheese on top. Turns out, you get exactly what it says in the menu - an entire cauliflower from the oven. That's it. There is some oil in there but nothing else from what I tasted. They served a bottle of Aceto Balsamico dressing (not the pure vinegar) with it and so I ate the cauliflower with the dressing. It was alright like that, just not what I had in mind when I ordered it. When I mentioned my feelings toward this meal to the guy who turned out to be the owner he retracted its price from the bill, offered me some free dessert and thanked me for my honest feedback. We found Pizzeria do Carmo on our walk back to town from Palacio a Quinta da Regaleira. The place looks very small, but has several seating areas. It has a great chill vibe about it with nice background music and we actually liked it so much for lunch that we returned for dinner. The staff is super friendly, almost all spoke fluent English, and service was quick. Uma is from Napal and she served us for dinner. She is so sweet and her smile just makes you smile back. We found that sort of happiness with all of the staff. Between lunch and dinner, we had a Funghi pizza, a hot dog, french fries, Gazpacho, and a pasta dish. All were excellent. The thin-crust pizza was made in a pizza oven and was outstanding. If you like a lot of cheese ask for extra. The crust was so good we dipped it in our Gezpacho. My wife decided to have a hot dog, but the Portuguese specialize in wonderful sausages. It was so tasty.

I don’t understand why this place has 4.8 stars?!?! At first we waited 10 minutes for the menu. After ordering, we waited another 15 minutes for our drinks to be brought to us. And another 15 minutes for the pizza to arrive. BUT!!! We ordered one pizza WITH EXTRA MOZZARELLA and NO CHILI. Well, the pizza we've been waiting for was WITH chili and WITHOUT mozzarella. We only had one item in the order, but even that was ruined. By the way, the pizza is not tasty. Too sour sauce and mediocre dough. But we were hungry and in a hurry, so we ate pizza and my stomach hurt all evening. Oh yes, the last thing - the table was covered in crumbs from previous guests and no one cleaned it, we were not given cutlery or napkins, or additional plates.
