This place serves 11 locally produced beers on tap, and what beers those are! I took the tasting deal where you get six beers of your choice served in a wooden rack, I think 150 ml or so of each. A nice touch is that every rack is made from a uniquely shaped piece of wood. The bartender writes the numbers on the rack to help you remember which one is which, something that anyone serving a tasting rack should adopt.
Now, to the beers. This was without doubt the most exotic selection I've ever had. None of these drinks were in any way classic, at least not the ones I chose. I definitely wanted the craziest.
No. 1. Pear flavored. There is just enough pear in it to add a pleasant sour touch without turning it into an alcopop. Moderation is key!
No. 2. Mint and cinnamon flavoured stout. Not my favourite, the mint was overpowering, and I couldn't discern any cinnamon at all.
No. 4. Apple weiss. Halfway between a beer and a cider, and I'm saying this in a goid way.
No. 6. Barley wine. I don't quite understand the process behind this drink, but it really does resemble a dessert wine.
No. 7. Basil ale. Surprisingly, I enjoyed this one the most. Unlike the mint stout, this beer had basil in moderation, and yes, it makes total sense, and you should try it.
No. 10. Sour pear. It's really sour and peary for a beer, to the point that almost becomes a pear cider. A nice one, but when it comes to pear, I liked no. 1 better.
Summary: definitely worth the steep climb you have to take to reach there. A must visit if you're into unorthodox beers that push...

Wow, what an incredible find! Villa Craft Beer and Bread is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates truly unique craft beer.
The star of the show is their local Sintra brew. This isn't your standard lineup—each beer is a creative masterpiece. I got to try the Blueberry Sour, which was tart, refreshing, and bursting with real fruit flavour. The Basil Blond Ale was a revelation; herbaceous, smooth, and unlike anything I've ever tasted. And the IPA with Black Tea? Absolutely genius. It had the hoppy punch you expect, balanced with a subtle, earthy complexity from the tea. Every single craft beer is a unique taste adventure.
But it doesn't stop there! The food is equally amazing. Their bread is incredible (as the name promises), and the pizza is an absolute killer. The perfect crispy base with fantastic toppings.
I also have to shout out the vibe. It feels super cosy and inviting, but it's actually deceptively spacious inside. It's the perfect place to settle in for a few hours.
Cannot recommend this place highly enough. A top-tier experience!
Not forgetting the great friendly service of the staff ! They make you feel very comfortable and has the patience to introduce...
Read moreVery friendly craft beer bar / bread restaurant in central Sintra, which is an easy day (or half-day) trip on the train from Lisbon. Take an early morning train from Rossio station and spend the morning walking the streets and seeing the sites of Sintra before treating yourself to some tasty craft beers (they open at 11 AM). I got a flight of 6 beers to sample a variety and then went back for seconds for the NEIPA hazy. The sours and the stout were also very good. The bread rolls go well with the beer. I can strongly recommend the morcela (blood sausage / morcilla) and spicy sardine bread rolls. Sit outside on the small front terrace if the weather is good. Otherwise, there is additional seating inside. Good music on in the background, English spoken, free Wi-Fi, brew pub merchandise to purchase, and take-away cans and bottles of beer are also available. Only warning, payments are CASH only, so make sure you're good to go in that regard. It is definitely recommended...
