From Sri Lanka via London to Doha, newly opened Hoppers in Msheireb serving Sri Lankan and South Indian food.
From the snacks, we tried the Curry Leaf Cashews, which were spiced roasted cashews, deliciously simple.
For the mains we got a Masala Dosa, which was a fluffy savory pancake made of rice/lentil batter, which was super soft and filled with spiced potato. We also got the Black Lamb Curry, extremely flavorful and earthy sauce, but unfortunately the lamb itself wasn't exactly fork tender, felt like it could've been cooked for longer. We also got a Hopper, which is the name of the restaurant. Similar to Dosa, it's also a savory pancake but made of coconut milk batter, so it's also gives it a bit of sweetness. It has the iconic Hopper curved shape, and it was super fluffy, perfect to dip into the Curry. Finally we got their Lamb Shank Biryani. Oh. My. The lamb was insanely tender and flavorful, literally melted in my mouth. The biryani itself was delicious and not really your typical biryani that most people are used to from the North Indian region. Really loved it and I'll definitely be coming back just for this.
For dessert, why not also try their Jaggery Milk Hopper with Coconut Ice Cream. The same fluffy Hopper but sweetened and topped with jaggery syrup, really complimented the dough.

Read moreOverall I gave them a 4 because the food is honestly not that special. It's good food by all means but some of the reviews I read that this was "the best meal they'd ever had" so my expectations were pumped and we're certainly not met.
Food: Decent selection of Sri Lankan food and it did taste good. But it's not different that any other Sri Lankan food place. The mango prawn curry was great and the hopper itself was quite nice. But in terms of value for money, it didn't really wow me. The ice cream was very nice though.
Service: Shout-out to Brian who is an amazing waiter. He is helpful, professional and just generally an amazing guy. Overall service was good but the food really took a long time to come which was odd cause the restaurant wasn't that packed when I went. Nice atmosphere, has pretty nice outdoor seating in the heart of Msheireb.
It's on entertainer so it's definitely worth visiting once if you're curios to try Sri Lankan food in a high end setting. But won't be on my go to or must...
