I am giving them three stars because of the customer service from the staff, which in fact was pretty amazing; otherwise, the place deserves a much worse rating. The maitre'd, Thor, was extremely helpful and in very good humour, a really outgoing guy. Unfortunately, the rest of the restaurant does not hold up: not on the food, not on the ambience--why was there a DJ pumping out House music through the night at a high-end steak restaurant? This is not what I asked for.
Really not an amazing place, a sad disappointment. It's sad because the Thai restaurant in the same hotel, which you can literally see from the Hunter's (overly) cavernous dining room, is a fantastic place to share a meal and a few beers with friends. Not so much this place. If you're at the Westin and looking for a bite to eat, then go to the Thai place or go to the buffet at Seasons.
I ordered a rib eye, which was mediocre--the kind of thing you would get at Longhorn or Outback or Bennigans, not a sit-down fancy dinner place where you would go for dates. I have to say they cooked it almost perfectly, but the cut I had had too much of the wrong kind of marbling, and there seems to be only a single source of beef (Australian, but seemingly not grass-fed, Angus), so you can't order something with better marbling. My wife ordered the tenderloin "medium well", and in turn she got something which was grey and cold and nowhere near as good as what you could get for the same price in other Doha establishments.
The wine menu was interesting: a little bit more to recommend it, with some Spanish/Catalonian choices that I really like (Casa Torres) and there is a good range of prices. Still, though: a bottle of Chateau Rotschild Mouton Cadet is 100 QAR (~ US$27) more expensive here than another place down the road. We got dessert on the house, which was a nice gesture, but the house ice cream seemed like store bought Movenpick: that's great for a buffet but, again, this place bills itself as an upscale steak house. It seems to have an identity crisis.
So, while I loved the customer service--I did not have the same experience as another reviewer here, Mahmoud Jaidah, did but sadly I can believe that that sort of thing happened--I could only imagine one scenario in which I would give this place return business: If I find myself in Doha, staying in a room not far from this hotel and with no transportation to the other great steak houses in the West Bay (Anvil Rooms, Prime at the St Regis, Feugo at the Shangri La), and the Thai restaurant at the Westin--which is a lovely establishment, very good food and a cozy setting--is closed or overbooked, then you may want to...
Read moreMassive disappointment. This was our 2nd time at Hunters. The first time we went there was three months ago and we really enjoyed our evening there. My dad came to Doha to visit us and as it’s his birthday we wanted to take him somewhere we considered special so we decided to go to Hunters. What a huge disappointment. My father had ordered a fillet steak and my husband a Porterhouse steak. They both asked for medium to rare and when the steaks came both were medium to well done. My father’s one was really over cooked and on top of this they advertise on their menu 315 grams fillet steak however the head chef who came to our table to apologise said that the steak is 250 grams. Absolutely disgusting, false advertising for a very small steak that doesn t get cooked as requested and very expensive 360 QAR(£80)!!! The head chef was clearly forced out to apologise. We could tell his approach and what he said was very insincere and fake. He became defensive and instead of taking responsibility, passed the buck onto his colleagues, saying “ it was my colleagues that cooked it” My father waited almost half an hour for another steak to be cooked which being medium to rare should have been ready alot quicker. It was so disappointing and ruined the evening which as mentioned was my father’s birthday. Even that, over the phone when i made a reservation the lady said they would arrange a birthday cake and they forgot until I had to tell the waiter. The front of house manager was promoting the bread which he says has “beef fat” and wanted feedback. The bread quality compared to the first time we went was awful, dry, chewy and tiny. The menu had changed recently as well as the chef so the waitress told us and honestly you can tell!!! The one star i gave was for the waitress. She was very friendly, professional and attentive. We will never go back to the Hunters grill. There are so many steak places in Doha and a whole lot cheaper. Don t waste your money at...

I believe that what happened with me and my wife is a clear case of discrimination. We waited for 20min at the restaurant's serving station with no one attending our need. Staff were passing by with complete disregard like we were ghosts. When another couple (expats) happened to walk in, magically a staff appeared to help them. I have raise my concern with a disappointment of the way we were treated to the receptionist. Guess what, after he walked the other couple to their table, he told us that they were fully booked.. this happeded in a Monday night.
I have called the Night Manager and told him of the matter and he said that he will take care of it and that someone will call me.
Now you can take my rant to be as one off case . You could take it as a major flaw in how the establishment is manged or you could look at it like it was a rude and careless receptionist.
I am local who loves to eat out and experience all the new things and feel very proud and blessed when more and more establishments open in Doha. I hate to write reviews like this but I really think you should consider before you come here because I believe that what happened could happen again and again. Doha is for sure not short of steakhouse...
