This restaurant was actually recommended by our tour guide, and upon a quick google search it was already remarkably interesting. Upon arrival, you will enter this really “sketchy” corridor that seems to go down under ground and then you’re met with a sword in the stone that you can try and pull. I thought that was pretty cute, an actual Excalibur. We even tried pulling and taking photos whilst pretending and failing to pull the sword out. So, before even entering the double doors, it was already quite fun.
So, having gone through the double doors; the ambiance has already hit you. You then feel the atmosphere that is in there. The staff are dressed in “medieval” themed clothes. They were actually fully booked, however, the staff managed to seat us. Albeit it was in the corner, but it was still surprisingly good. We could feel the vibe of the room; happy, energetic, and just full of wonder; like, what are we actually going to be eating today? Moreover, the staff were delightful! They actually made so much effort to have us; 8 people; sitting at a decent table. Despite, being busy, fully booked and it seemed like they were understaffed. So, kudos! We really appreciate it!
The food. OH MY GOD THE FOOD. I did not expect that when it arrived. Just a little back story; I am Filipino, my whole family is Filipino, other that one Caucasian gentleman; my sister’s boyfriend, we are all Filipino. So, we really loved the food! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Although, the food was quite simple food but the way it was presented and served to us! In addition, they encouraged us to eat with our hands! We were so happy because we felt so at home. This was an equivalent to what us Filipinos call a “Boodle-fight”, where the food is centred in front of everyone, and we eat with our hands. The only thing missing was soy sauce, vinegar, calamansi or lemon, and RICE! If those were there, it would’ve been a “Boodle-fight”. So, to all the Filipinos out there, BRING SOY SAUCE, VINEGAR, CALAMANSI OR LEMON AND RICE! Then, you would be complete! We absolutely loved it even without the rice. I mean, even the other people sat beside us were looking at how much fun we were having whilst they were eating with knives and forks.
The price is fair. It is not that cheap, but its fair. For what you get; the service and the AMOUNT OF FOOD, the price is fair. I wouldn’t ask for it to be cheaper to be honest because of how fair the pricing is. Plus, all ages can enjoy this restaurant. From elders to adults and the children can enjoy this restaurant. You don’t even need to buy special foods for you children because you will all be sharing platters; which is what I recommend.
In conclusion, my family and I had so much fun and absolutely loved the food. On the other hand, the food is nothing special. So, please don’t expect Michelin star. However, the ambiance along with aesthetics and the experience of it all. This restaurant is worth the visit and if you’re Filipino or south-eastern Asian, bring rice but maybe ask permission first. A head up, their menu also has a whole roast pig but requires a 48hour advance notice. Overall, we absolutely loved it and will...
Read moreExcalibur Medieval Restaurant offers a unique and immersive experience in the very heart of Bucharest. From the moment you step inside, you are transported into a medieval world that is carefully crafted down to the finest details — from the grand wooden entrance doors to the medieval-style dining halls, the staff uniforms, the rustic food presentation, and even the design of the restrooms. Every corner of the restaurant remains true to its theme, creating a full-sensory experience that captures the imagination.
The food is hearty, flavorful, and perfectly in line with the medieval concept — rich platters, generous portions, and rustic recipes that fit the atmosphere. The drinking glasses, tableware, and even the background music contribute to a consistent, well-executed theme. You simply have to love the dedication they've put into creating such a coherent experience.
Excalibur is always lively and buzzing, even during weekend days, so I strongly recommend making a reservation, especially if you are planning to visit with a larger group. The restaurant is particularly well-suited for big tables and can easily accommodate large gatherings, private parties, or corporate events.
As for areas of improvement, I do feel that Excalibur deserves far more visibility than it currently enjoys. I've seen numerous viral reels and features online for similar medieval-themed restaurants in Poland or the Czech Republic, and yet Excalibur easily stands shoulder to shoulder with them, if not above in some aspects. Personally, I tend to visit mostly when friends come from abroad and are looking for a different experience — but truthfully, it’s a place that deserves to be enjoyed more often, even as a regular local destination.
A special thank you to the staff for the excellent service and hospitality each time we visit. Their energy and friendliness are a key part of the entire experience.
In a city where modern fusion restaurants often dominate, Excalibur remains a refreshing, bold, and entertaining reminder that dining can still be an adventure. Long...
Read moreWent because my partner had been there two years ago and had a good experience. I was a bit sceptical, it felt a bit like Disneyland to me, all fake medieval props. It's in a basement of a very new building. There's even Harry Potter stuff on the walls 😄 which confirmed my Disneyland reservations. We were sat down at the table closest to the bar and door, not the most romantic situation .... As we were taking our seats we were unceremoniously told "you have the table till 8pm". Menus handed to us, and we decided to have just one serving of food between the two of us since we'd had a late lunch, and the only booking we could get was at 18.00. We decided on the King Arthur's Dinner plate which was a pork knuckle with local sausage and fruit. When the food was presented to us it was two pieces of beef steak on a bed of potatoe chips and cabbage, a few olives, and a half slice of orange. My partner asked the waitress was this the platter and she said yes this is the King Arthur's Favourite. Of course by then we had forgotten the exact name of the dish and though confused by the waitresses' insistence that this was the dish we'd ordered, we tucked in. When we finished eating, we asked for the menu because we were still a bit bewildered. On checking we realised that they had brought the wrong dish to us! We called over the said waitress again and all was clarified, the waiter had taken the wrong order! He apologised profusely, seems it's his first week at the restaurant, well in my opinion he shouldn't be taking orders especially if there are dishes with such similar names on the menu. There was absolutely no apology at all from management, we're just a booking for a table of two one evening. Not important..I would definitely not recommend this place at all, not because the food isn't any good, it's the way the mistake was handled by management. The waitress should have checked our order when we called her over when the dish was presented to us. She didn't...
