What’s to say about Cupt’or? Like some others have mentioned it does have certain, shall we say, tourist trap characteristics about it. BUT, it is also a little bit more. I mean, it’s right there, slap bang in the centre of Old Town, right on the main square, so sure it’s a bit touristy. Why wouldn’t it be? If you do venture in though you will be treated to some great service, perfectly reasonably food (enjoyable but nothing you would go out of your way to write about.. oh wait..) but enjoyable never the less. I had the ribs and chips(chunky fries if you insist on denying their chip status) with BBQ sauce, more on that later, and my wife had mămăligă with eggs, cheese and a side of pickled veg. Both were perfectly enjoyable but not the best food in town for sure. For drinks she had a lemonade, which she was very impressed with, while I had the very thing I entered the place for in the beginning, Ursus Tank. A variation on the best selling Ursus lager. Ursus Tank is always worth searching out when visiting a place, take my word for it. The menu also had a create your own meal section where you can throw your own combination of food together on a plate, quite a nice and unique concept which we saw a few people around us making use of. The decor is very nice, and quite typical for Brașov. If you’re up for a place with good service, pretty good food and a great view of the town square (if your sat upstairs) then give it a try. You may not be wowed, but I doubt you will be disappointed either. Make sure to try the Ursus Tank though ;)
Almost forgot, the BBQ sauce, I had ribs, you know, what most folks refer to as BBQ ribs. So when asked do you want BBQ sauce, of course I said yes. 9lei! 9 blinking lei for something that ordinarily would be poured over the ribs for free in 99.9% of other restaurants. Like I said, it has certain, what is commonly known as ‘tourist...
Read moreBad experience Commercial place. Waiters not guiding the size of plate and suggesting more sauces than required. All 3 sauces charged on the top. Polenta had dry maize as if not mixed properly.
So we had ordered dinner at 9pm around a non veg plate for husband in rush as we had our excited toddler with us n a vegetarian dish for me as i am a vegetarian. The waiter can say that it takes time like 20 min but he can’t suggest that its a big platter, too big for a single person as he knew i am a vegetarian so its only for my hubby. When asked about it why he didn’t say that its too big he said ah you can pack or give to a beggar its a good thing too and my first day. Then when i saw another waiter i had asked for some sauce to eat it with, like ketchup or something so then they suggested u want mustard, mayo and all. I said ok get them then they came late once my husband was already done eating food with three different sauces in small cups in the plate which was all charged in the end on top. I wasn’t expecting it. If i knew its all charged like this i could have asked one only. I thought its like in sauce bottles how they have in a burger place. Totally commercial place. The waiter could have indicated that its charged on the top instead of giving all 3 options to make more bill. Thank god he had only 3 sauces else he got all to be paid. Lava cake had cold lava too. After paying when i had complained to the Manager she also said u have to check the menu its there. Sauces are not written in that dish. Non veg platter with french fries so was expected with sauce. So read all carefully please though i don’t have any clue if its priced in menu all...
Read moreI was really impressed. Food, service, atmosphere, weather, everything was perfect for having a perfect night out. What impressed me about food; I've ordered a dish with chicken breasts and tree mushrooms. What shocked me was the light Indian flavour of the dish. Not too strong just perfect. I was advised by the waiter to get my dish with some focaccia topped with cheese. I can say his advice was spot on with my dish. Now about service; service was fast. I can't say I waited for my dish more than 10 minutes max. Waiters were there for anything what you wanted but not to make you feel watched or uncomfortable. Empty plates or empty bottles was disappearing without noticing. All waiters was speaking at least English ( beside Romanian of course ). At the end I could choose to pay by card or cash. I have paid £12 for that night out except drinks. Compared with UK I think is a bargain. And I forgot to mention, the portion was huge, enough to fill a very hungry person. About atmosphere; it's one of the best. Situated in Piata Sfatului you can sit and watch the view, people, architecture. It was a beautiful hot day but when the night came was a bit chilly but no problem at all. The waiters turned on the terrace heaters making the place even more enjoyable. Conclusion; it worth every minute and every penny. I haven't such a great night out for a long time and I will probably go back and definitely I will recommend the place to...
