Perhaps the most unusual (not upfront rude) encounter at a restaurant: you're dining as a small party together and a staff member comes by and aims his phone's camera at your table without letting you know the purpose behind it and then goes to the kitchen nearby and gossips within an audible distance. Of course, while we appreciated that it wasn't crowded and the fact that the hosts and servers were bilingual, it was quite hard to get the servers' attention even though there was only one other table of people at the restaurant. I asked for 750 grams of food, but after the first 250 grams, no one brought out the other plates for a while that my fiancé had to even get up and go get a server from the front doors where they're probably told to stand there, stay there, and greet the guests. Alas, only another 250 grams of food was brought out and since it seems like we bothered a staff member, the food was in a puddle of vinegar flavored water as if it's been freshly warmed up and undrained. Needless to say, I refrained from asking for the last 250 grams of food. I wanted to spit out the food, but the man who brought it out hung around, looking at our table, so I had to awkwardly wait with my mouth stuffed so as to not be without manners. As for my fiancé's food, he ordered what should've came out to be a beef pot roast, but it came out as something similar to Campbell's canned soup--- the tomato soup where you'd add in some milk for your grilled cheese sandwich. There were a bit of meat, but I'd advise the restaurant to not cut corners on the recipe as the result of the dish is very far from what it should look and taste like. The restaurant is in a good location; it's in the center, just across the street from the bus terminal, but you can easily miss it as the entrance leads you downstairs, so the restaurant isn't easily seen at the entrance. But for the food, its quality, and the service, I'd recommend you go elsewhere, lest your photos might end up on the internet as a local joke. Mind you, I wasn't picking at the food with my bare hands nor putting my shoes on the table and we were well-dressed to dine out as it was a small party, so not sure what was so...
Read moreEasily one of the BEST restaurants in Romania. The food and the way you.re served is top notch and plain perfect. I go there always when returning to Brasov, for almost 8 years now. Never been dissapointed. Everything from the free (on the house) portions of fried fat of pig cubes (called "jumari") with red onions that everybody receives at the table before the actual order, to the soups and main courses (including deserts!!), the athmosphere and the location in the city it.s perfect. The food it.s very well coocked and extremly delicious and the portions are big (and I eat a lot) and the price per quality it.s excellent ! For this whole period of 7+ years I ve recommended this place to all my friends that are passing through Brasov, and none of them were dissapionted. Best place to eat in Brasov. Period ! Ps. For soups - I recommend the "belly of cow" soup with green chilly and double cream (it.s the best I tasted ever!) Or the chicken soup, or even the simple beef soup is great. For main courses - Boneless chicken legs with fried potatoes / peasant-like potatoes (boiled potatoes with fried bacon and some parsley), or stuffed with bacon and mushrooms breast chicken schnitzel with potatoes, or sauteed mushrooms or whatever you like. These are my favorites, but trust me when I.m saying... everything it.s great, and it.s a rustic place with some of the best traditional food in...
Read moreMy S.O. and I went to Sergiana for dinner while in Brașov. The restaurant is located in what appears to be a wine cellar, and we were seated in a small portion/corridor off to one side, which was cozy and a bit less noisy than the rest, if a bit claustrophobic. Waiters were busy (and some a little bit snarky), and it was difficult to get their attention given our "invisible" seating. While ordering, you are served jumări (crispy pork rind), onion and bread, which is super nice. I started with ciorbă de fasole (bean soup), which was the best of the kind that I have yet had. For the main course, I had bulz țărănesc (mămăligă with pork, cheese and egg), but after eating maybe half of the portion, which was 50% cheese, I lost appetite. It seems they used cașcaval instead of fresh cow cheese, making the meal extremely fatty. My girlfriend, on the other hand, had a good and tasty gulaș. Overall we were not particularly impressed with the meal, especially as we had better food for same or lower cost in the same area of town. We were recommended this place for their fresh and good meat, so maybe meat-heavy dishes are better than what we had, but based on our experience, I would not...
