Azur Restaurant – A Hidden Spanish Gem in Riyadh

Azur Restaurant, located on the first floor of Hyatt Regency in Olaya, is a quiet and elegant Spanish restaurant that offers a refined dining experience. I visited the restaurant craving seafood paella, and I must say, it did not disappoint!

Food & Service

✅ Paella – Absolutely delicious! One of the best I’ve had in Riyadh, rich in flavor and cooked to perfection. ✅ Service – The staff were very professional and courteous, making the experience smooth and enjoyable. I walked in and got a table immediately without any wait, which was a plus.

Ambiance

While the restaurant was very quiet and nearly empty, the overall quality of food and service was excellent. I believe they could improve the atmosphere to attract more guests, as the experience itself was truly enjoyable.

Welcomed by the beautiful Carolina, who is well-informed of the menu, I was fortunate to dine her. While unfortunately it was empty, Chef Ramon de Madrid prepared a great beef cheeks dish for me. Not my usual choice, but upon the hostesses’ strong recommendation, I gave it a try. The vegetables on the side are not seasoned much but you can taste a high quality oil on them; also, good to get a set of diverse veggies in the Gulf. The bread did not taste homemade, or it was a bit too simple; the bread came with a sort of labneh-toum dip and a tomato salsa and some black/kalamata Spanish small olives. Olives were great and the labneh dip threw me off a bit, although it was good.

Cannot stress how nice it was to be around a hostess and a chef who spoke Spanish. Both very nice and enjoyable people.

The chef sent a complimentary chicken croquette which was nice.

I intend to try the seafood paella when dining with more people eventually. That’s what this place is known for.

Located in the Hyatt Regency, Azure looks the part with roomy dining spaces appointed with inoffensive decor and lighting. The kitchen can be seen and its sizzles heard from the tables, the chef directing his staff in soft but imperious Spanish. Go for the cold appetisers, ceviches and octopus are highlights. The seafood is fresh and allowed to express its subtle flavours and textures without being overpowered by sauces and seasoning as is all too common in Riyadh. The main reason one visits a Spanish eatery is for its pork and seafood. In lieu of the former, the paella shines. There’s no question, the seafood paella is really the only choice. For ponces of paella, know the chef likes to cook the specially imported paella rice soft (specify if you want a crispy bottom).
