Our first lunch in Belgrade, Serbia, was at this wonderful restaurant and cocktail bar called Josephine.

Opulent and modern design inspired by the fabulous 1920s Art Deco style and Première icône Noire Josephine Baker, a restaurant and cocktail bar.

You first enter the cocktail bar to be greeted by the lovely hostess, which transports you instantly back to the 1920s, absolutely stunning. Followed by the dining room and amazing outdoor dining in the beautifully designed garden under the trees.

We were then seated in the dining room, very cosy and full of natural light. Our friendly waiter Nikola was an absolute delight, and we felt very spoilt by the exceptional service levels.

The wine list is exemplary, full of local and wines worldwide, including a great selection of champagne, which we couldn't pass up to celebrate our arrival in Belgrade, followed by an Austrian Riesling.

The food set the bar high for our first dining experience in Belgrade. It was mouthwatering, especially the roast chicken, so tender and moist, served with roast vegetables.

We couldn't leave without sampling the cocktails, as we did hear they have one of the best mixologists in the city, and again we were very impressed.

Wayne's birthday lunch was also celebrated at Josephine, and the magical dining experience continued. We explored more of the menu, both wine and food and absolutely loved our journey.

Service from our friendly Nikola was exceptional, and he took us on a food journey to surprise and delight. The watermelon carpaccio definitely played with our thoughts as we guessed the type of meat being served.

Our lunch in the garden ended with another surprise, a birthday dessert for Wayne (and myself). This was a perfect ending to yet another amazing dining experience at Josephine.

We will definitely be back to enjoy another lazy lunch at Josephines, and we absolutely love the positive vibe, beautiful setting, friendly service and food, along with being a...

Let me start with the general impression - uniqueness in the concept, food extravagance and cocktails craftedly made - this place stands out. There is no ordinary thing to order. Not even cocktail off the menu as cosmopolitan or old-fashioned but the menu is versatile. Loved the martini cocktails the most, strong and rich in flavour. Highly quality alcohol served. Fusion cuisine that blends untipical flavours all together was pure perfection. Who could say that burek can be found here in the mains? (btw we recommend it) Unmistekable menu, creative and bold. World class and quality. The atmosphere is sophisticated and chic, the enterior gives Parisian vibe but the garden follows up. I forgot I was in Belgrade for the moment. Intimate and peaceful. The staff.. it can be improved. The hostess was amazing, so kind and friendly but the waiter was just stiff and unbothered. Didn’t try to help us with the menu and when I asked for syrup reduction to the cocktail it seemed like he rolled his eyes. Like he got ofended. We all noticed that. I think that reservations are needed, especially...

This was honestly one of the most disappointing experiences I’ve had at a place that claims to be upscale.

We ordered gin & tonics, and even though there are several gin options on the menu, the waiter didn’t ask which one we wanted. Instead, they just served and charged us for the most expensive one without any explanation. For a simple drink like that, it felt like a deliberate way to inflate the bill.

When we went to pay, we were told the card terminal wasn’t working and payment had to be in cash. In 2025, on a place like that, a non-working card terminal is simply unacceptable. What if we hadn’t had cash?

We had planned to stay longer, but the staff turned off the lights and made it clear it was time to leave — without any courtesy or explanation.

For a restaurant that positions itself as high-end, this level of service and transparency was a huge letdown. If there was an option to leave zero...

Last year I had tiramisu that I didn't like but withheld from leaving review thinking I didn't have a proper meal and won't be doing a justice to this place that "once upon a time" used to be a legendary spot in town. But last night was another big disappointment. I ordered sautéed shrimps with zucchini and it sounded good on paper. Even presentation was not bad but it was covered actually drowned by accessible amount of mashed potatoes that killed any taste. Shrimps were frozen and lacking taste. Even black truffles did not do a thing for this dish to taste any better. Besides a nice garden and super nice interior I can't find anything else to recommend there. Service is a bit on a slow side and food waiting time did not meet waiters estimate. But again, it's up to you what you can label as good, great or awesome. I use those words for worthy places and this is definitely not one of them so far.
