The restaurant manager tried to chase us out of the restaurant before closing time in an unnecessarily rude manner. We understand that the restaurant is preparing for closing, but we felt that he could have done it in a better way.
I could see from my line of sight that he marched towards us to clear our table while my friend was still eating her salad. He very curtly told us that the kitchen had to close and go home, so we had to stop eating. Right after that, he didn't give us any say and just proceeded to clear the plates. His staff also cleared my friend's water in the midst of this confusion. The restaurant manager then marched back to our table to hand us the bill.
Those that he deemed as regulars (we could tell as he was very friendly with them) still had their plates in front of them and none of the staff were clearing it.
We called him back to our table to explain why he felt the need to act the way he did, but he did not give a satisfactory answer. He was trying to make it seem like it was our fault for sitting there at the restaurant before closing time (there were still many tables who were drinking and some who were eating). He said that he was sorry we felt this way when he very obviously knew what he was doing. He wasn't apologising for what he did, he was only sorry for how we felt. He told us lies about how his staff had come over to ask if we were done with our food, when that in fact did not happen (they only asked us if we had any last orders). I countered every point that he tried to make for his attitude towards our group. He even brought up the fact that his staff worked from 9am, all while not addressing the issue of his attitude.
Uncalled for rude attitude. It's not the first time we've eaten at a restaurant where they had to ask us to pay the bill as they were closing. We totally understand that. More than willing to settle the bill early and finish up early... But no need to be rude, we have never spoken to him during our time at the restaurant and we definitely were pleasant to his staff, so no reason for his attitude. Were they perhaps annoyed that we asked some questions about the menu, asked for a glass of water and sour cream that did not come with our rosti?
Was the restaurant at full capacity during our time there? No. There were plenty of tables available. We took a side table outside the compound of the restaurant. Yes, we took pretty long to eat as we had ordered quite a lot for 2 people. But the restaurant's closing time was 11pm.
The restaurant's stated closing time was 11pm. But we were asked from 9:30pm if we had any last orders. Not sure why the restaurant felt the need to ask us so early and every 30mins if we had any last orders. If the restaurant was not prepared to open till 11pm (on a Sat), then don't. Shift your closing time earlier. (Fyi, we left before 11pm.)
If you felt that your staff were working too long hours, then my suggestion to your restaurant would be to work out a shift roster to have morning and afternoon shifts. Don't quite understand why this was brought up to us, but here's my suggestion for you. Your restaurant closes at 11pm for all I know. I don't appreciate getting looked at like as if we were the ones who were at fault for staying past 10:30pm at the restaurant.
Overall, food was alright. Some service provided by staff was good. Ambience was so so. Manager's attitude...

Read moreAs my family stepped into the cozy confines of Brotzeit at Westgate, we were greeted by the comforting aroma of hearty German cuisine.
My eyes scanned the menu, and my taste buds danced with anticipation. We decided to embark on a culinary journey with two classic schnitzels: the Pork Cordon Bleu Schnitzel and the Grilled Chicken Schnitzel.
Pork Cordon Bleu Schnitzel: The plate arrived, adorned with golden-brown schnitzel, oozing with melted cheese and ham. The first bite was a symphony of flavors—a crispy exterior yielding to tender pork, the cheese adding richness, and the ham providing a salty kick.
Grilled Chicken Schnitzel: Alas, my excitement waned as I sliced into the grilled chicken schnitzel. The meat was a tad dry and tough. Perhaps it had spent a little too long on the grill, losing some of its juiciness. The seasoning was spot-on, but the texture left me yearning for more tenderness.
Atmosphere : We opted for the open-air setting, hoping to soak in the natural light and fresh air. However, despite the huge fan, the afternoon warmth persisted. The gentle breeze provided some relief, but I would recommend choosing an indoor spot during the hotter hours.
Verdict: Despite the minor hiccup with the grilled chicken schnitzel and the warm outdoor seating, our overall experience at Brotzeit was positive. The warm ambiance, friendly staff, and flavorful pork cordon bleu schnitzel made up for it.
Next time, we might stick to the classics and explore other German...
