My rating: 5/5 What I like in libraries: Books that are available that I originally have on my online To-Be-Read (TBR). Spacious environments. Multiple book genres.
Once you enter and walk forward a few steps and turn to the right, you’ll notice these three long green sofas. I think that, if for some reason, you can’t find a seat on the floors above, the green sofas are a good place to sit. Also because they are comfy. They also have some green seats near the escalator.
Once you have reached the second floor, you’ll see 5 black seats, almost back to back, and that’s also a nice area to sit. If you keep walking straight after reaching the second floor by escalator, you’ll notice a few tables close to the windows, and that’s good for studying, using your computers, and reading. They also have DVDs, and you can also test them.
If you walk back to the escalator and turn to the right, you’ll notice this big section of shelves and just space basically. And that’s a good place to study. They also have Chinese, Malay, and more.
Once you’ve reached level 3, you’ll notice straight away that there’s this large section for the Singapore Collection. On the fourth floor there are teen books. Once you reach the top of the escalators you’ll see a big sign that says ‘Verging all teens’. Once you’ve found a book you can go to the right and there are a few seats and a big open space.
There is a good selection of books. There are horror, science fiction, and more. At the side of the shelf there usually is a cover of a book that many people liked, and the description of the book.
Overall, I would say the Jurong Regional library is a nice and spacious library to do many things. It’s also a nice library if you’re a student, and a good place to come with...
Read moreBorrowed 2 books in Dec 2021. Did a quick check on books before borrowing by flipping it quickly. Discovered that one book had a section torn out when I was reading the book in detail at home. Decided to report the matter when I returned the books. I returned the books on 31 Jan 2022 at 2pm. Reported the matter to librarian. Librarian said I should have checked the book before borrowing aka it is the customers’ responsibility to check the books. I will be let off this time round and need not pay for the damages. My query: why did the librarians not pick up the damaged books after they are returned? Did they not do a proper check? Why push their responsibility to me?
I felt wronged and that I was labelled as a criminal, guilty until proven innocent. The reply was totally unprofessional and uncalled for. I should have just returned the book quietly and not get my CNY eve ruined by the horrifying experience. All it takes is one bad experience to tarnish the good memories of the library where I spent my childhood growing up at. Key takeaways - if you spot any irregularities in the book you borrowed, best is if you don’t report it. Otherwise, be treated as a criminal and maybe pay for others’ mistake. Best solution is that you buy your own books.
Have also written in to NLB feedback. Waiting for their reply. Too bad these days librarians don’t wear a name tag. Otherwise, I would have included her name in the feedback.
[Afternote: NLB staff called me on 12 Feb to explain that the case has reached the library manager and case was shared with all the librarians as a learning...
Read moreAmazing! Just no words to say. It was my first time to the Jurong regional library and the very scale of it took me in awe. So many collections of different books and so many different levels to go and explore! They have a community space for events and workshops , then there is a cafe and bakery inside with good food options. There is so many different things to explore! I couldn’t even finish going through all the sections! I will definitely go there again soon. The place is also located very close to the MRT station and the Jurong east bus terminus . It has a sheltered walkway so we could easily reach the place even though it was raining. Many people from all different age groups were there. There is study tables with charging points. For some of the study tables you need to book in advance but for the rest you can always find and empty space. There are DVDs and other stuff as well. If you have to borrow books you need to register , but I just went for reading so I didn’t have to register anything. The library closes at 9pm and is open all days of the week. They will announce over the mike before the closing time so you have time to pack your stuff. I especially liked the photography section and farming section . There’s a separate magazine section and newspaper section as well. Different languages from Tamil to Malay to Korean you will find in...
