Sorry, but this place was terrible. I went in with my japanese guests and I was ashamed that such a doggery can maintain its clientele in such a lucrative location in the city centre. I read some rewievs from foreigners here who praise it... well, if you find this food good, then proper/normal food and service must be something foreign for you. Please do not consider what you get there for the culinary standard in slovakian restaurants which despite not being very high in general, is MUCH better in most places! Now to some facts. Firstly, I do not expect the waiter to throw/slide the plates with food form around half a meter distance in front of the customer. Even though I doubt that a single one of the personell was actually ever schooled to be a waiter, I would honestly think that civilized people serve dishes in a more cultivated way at any occasion. Secondly, the personel appeared to have confused the joint for a place for their amusement, rather than one for the guests. This was manifested by loud shouting and loud laughing countless times during our stay. The fact that they do not wear waiters uniforms seems rather negligible along the other flaws which were observed. My guests exchanged silent but meaningful looks. Now to the food. I and several others orderes (Wiener/Vienna)Schnitzel. It is a rather simple dish, so I am honestly surprised how it could be dehonested at so many levels. The meat was thick about 1.5cm, not fried long enough to be soft and not chewy like rubber, full of fatty pieces and tendons! The hamburger which was ordered by others was just an unidentifyable mass of something. Meanwhile the the "barman" showed off his barmanny skills by poping off lids of beer bottles all around the joint and then walking around and collecting them. What was that good for? Again, amusement of the staff? The most strange thing was however, that when we asked whether they had a place for 8 people, the waitress just looked confused and bored at me like if I am idiot, because they realy had some free places and I should have probably known that before entering, as "normal" logic would suggest.. All in all, terrible. Do not go there. Sorry for lenght, but a negative rewiev without facts is less trustworthy than one...
Read moreAs local tourist guide I recommended "Housemade spred combo" because of bryndza to lot of clients, so I came with family check personally, as only Slovaks felt like nobody cares, waited quite long time for waiter, medusa card was not in function, wanted to go low cost,so ordered just jar of lemonade, and spreads, the best thing was bread, mint lemonade,i had to ask for lemon and I suppose that they switched the returned one to new fresh, I saw the mint leaves, to spreds 300g, no way, I do to believe , bryndza was the only one autenthic, egg spread was more like egg mayo salad, kind liked it, but cracling no way, the taste was strange, mom said that she tasted mixed bread to add volume, to typical taste of home made cracling at all, I asked waiter if itvis home made, was surpriced, so explained that i was tourist guide, showed official badge, and i supposed my mistery shopping was shock, and they will no underestimate slovak speaking customers again, but honestly, as quick snack with loval beer, I can approve, but not for couple to...
Read moreGreat food and service
For a place in the very center of the city, it was surprisingly full of locals. Beautiful decor inside, resembling an elegant, old-time pub from the region, outside nicely made, wooden tables and slightly uncomfortable seats.
We initially came for beer but stayed for dinner too. They’ve a selection of tank beers, though admittedly only mainstream brands, while I wish they made their own beer or offered some craft ones. By what we’d expect from mainstream beer, we did like our fresh Zlaty Bazant portions.
Service was very nice---a fun, entertaining and helpful waiter, attentive even though the place was really busy. Quick to take our orders, advise on food and quick to serve too.
We had the Pivný syr with our beer, a local invention, beautifully served and tasty. For dinner a half chicken with grilled goat cheese salad. The chicken took a while to get to us, but was obviously freshly baked, soft, tender and well spiced. The salad had a nice combination of ingredients and...
