I arrived in Cape Town pretty late in the evening and I practice a plant based diet.
After going to two other vegan friendly places that were closing up and refusing to serve me (despite google saying they were open), I had almost given up on eating dinner that night. That’s when an employee at one of the other restaurants pointed me toward Nom Nom, stating that it was probably the only place nearby that could get me food this late (it was approximately 10 p.m. at the time). Seeing as it was a pizza place, I figured the odds were low that I’d have options to eat.
Much to my surprise, they had an entire small section of vegan pizzas complete with vegan cheese on them. I got two pizzas, one to eat there and one for later. I’ve had better vegan pizzas in my day, but they were both quite tasty & affordable. Staff were very helpful and welcoming to me. One of the servers, whose name I have unfortunately forgotten, was there both times I went (yes, I went back the next night) and she immediately recognized me and helped me out with a smile on her face.
Make no mistake, this place is not elegant or fancy. Don’t come in here expecting classy accommodations. However, it will give you tasty wood fired pizzas at basically any time of day/night, a bathroom you can use, and a safe refuge against the onslaught of homeless beggars that perpetually walk up and down Long Street. That’s what’s important.
I didn’t try their regular pizzas, but if the quality is comparable to the vegan pizzas, then I’m sure they’re pretty good.
In my opinion, it’s essential for any big city to have restaurants available for all sorts of people and to have some of those places be open late at night. In that regard, Nom Nom is doing Cape Town a...
Read moreFirstly, I want to commend the staff for always being friendly, helpful and very service-orientated. It's a shame that the owner lacks this very basic skill in customer service.
In the 10 years that I have frequented this place, I've never experienced such condescending engagement from an owner. This is appalling and I am not recommending this place henceforth.
During a very busy period, I approached the owner and requested if I can place an order with her as she was very actively involved in the management of the day, especially after she personally made sure that a specific table was served as priority. I received a very abrupt response quoting, "I am the owner and I don't serve customers. I have staff to do that. One of the waiters will take your order".
After having my order taken by a separate staff member, I went to the bathroom and on my return, I saw the owner in her office and just felt the need to advise her of her poor customer service.
Soon after that one incident, she instructed the security to have me leave the restaurant.
Henceforth I will stop visiting this place and advise my associates accordingly, as well.
I trust that the owner will look into her own upskilling in customer service and people management with the aim of treating ALL customers fairly and with dignity.

Read moreI regularly chill in the afternoon at this relaxed restaurant. BTW, Brewski and Nom Nom are managed by the same party/owner. The serving staff renders excellent service at all times and the atmosphere is always relaxing. On Saturday 15 Jan 2021 when Cape Town City decided to close off Long St for a phenomenal street bash from 17h00, the owner/manager was busy getting her restaurant prepped indoors and outside. Needless to say it was gonna be busy night as the crowd built fast. At the peak of the night when my friend asked owner/manager for assistance as she did so passionately of serving her friends and family in a table in front of ours on the pavement, she abruptly interjected: " I have serving staff. I don't serve and tend to customers!" We were all flabbergasted as we personally witnessed her serving and assisting. Further to that, we're living in the unprecedented period of Covid, in which any establishment would be too grateful to assist any patron, as one wouldn't know if and when or whether your client would return the next day. May I conclude that Nom Nom is much better off without this lady who has no way of communicating with clientele. Her staff supersede all expectations with friendly and...
