It was my first and only time at Cabo. I will never go to this establishment again and unless you're the type of person who feels the need to throw money around in order to prove your importance, I recommend you don't either.
I attended an event so I'm not sure who is at fault here, the event organizers or the people working at Cabo who approved their ridiculous requests. Either way, utterly poor hosting of patrons.
First if all, expecting people to pay R100 for one shot if tequila is despicable. Have one, normal priced option for the regular people, and one expensive one for the cool kids.
Secondly, the bathroom facilities are not equipped for an event of this size. I spent more time waiting in line to pee than seeing the artist I paid money to watch. A basic count of toilets available and tickets sold would easily inform one whether it's realistic or not. It wasn't.
Third of all, the seating. I get it. It's a luxury beach club where you are expected to cough up the dough in order to have a good time. No problem. Each to their own. However, when there is an event hosted at this location and there is not one single place to sit for under R5 000, I wonder whether it was done by accident or on purpose. You had to buy a VIP ticket or book a table for R5 000 minimum if you wanted to sit. What a blantant way to insinuate "we don't care about you unless you splurge." It was a standing event, yes, but are the regular folks expected to stand for 6+ hours straight? One would expect some form of seating (that you don't need to purchase) at a "luxury beach club". Would it have been an imposition to put out a couple of cocktail tables and bar chairs? There were plenty of open space at the pool to do so.
Second last thing, the bouncers were rude and entitled. Theres a painfully obvious difference between being firm and being tactless. I know bouncers aren't supposed to be love bugs, but for real, is it necessary to treat people like they are dirty criminals?
Last of all, bartenders need proper training in oder to operate a bar at an international DJ event. It's clearly a much different pace than a regular working day. I blame the management for throwing them into the deep end without the proper skills needed to manage the bar. You easily waited 40 minutes every time to get drinks. Not that the people in charge probably care about that. As long as the sheep are paying, they're happy.
TL;DR, Cabo Beach Club is overrated, overpriced, poorly managed and only caters to that one clique in Cape Town who uses money to make up for their lack of substance. If that is your kind of thing,...
Read moreI attended my second event at Cabo Beach Club (the last event was Jan 2022). When I attended the first event I was disappointed, but let it go. I am not one to give a bad review unless I really feel as though there is a big problem.
I attend many music events in and around Cape Town and to tell you that I now cringe when the venue is Cabo is an understatement.
I now know from two seemingly identical experiences that this is what you can expect from attending an event at Cabo:
You are going to be waiting in ques for the bathroom for over 30 mins at any given point during the event.
You are going to stand in line at the bar for a drink for atleast 30 - 45 mins.
You are going to be charged exorbitant prices for drinks.
Stock on cheaper drinks seems to 'run out' very early in the night.
This is exactly what we experienced last night. We were a group of 11. We went out for dinner and drinks at a nearby restaurant prior to the event because we were hesitant to arrive too early to the event knowing what it was like previously. I am so glad we did this!
We had a look at the drinks menu before deciding to go through to Cabo. We were impressed to see that the prices were fairly standard on beers and ciders, so we made our way over.
After waiting in the que from 9pm to 10.10pm (the event finished only at 2am) we were told that there was one beer left. A single warm Heineken. We were forced to order another drink and as quickly as possible because it was a bloody fight to get the attention of a bar tender to begin with. We ordered 6 x Vodka shots and 3 x Redbulls. Our bill was R550 for drinks for 3 people! Another friend ordered two beers and a single Vodka and Redbull and also paid over R500 which means that even the beers were not the price advertised on the menu.
Everything feels chaotic and unorganized. So many patrons were severely frustrated.
Here's my advice on how to solve this issue:
Have "mobile" bar staff or drink promoters walking around selling drinks to avoid so much pressure on the bar.
Get more bar staff and pay points or some more mobile (e.g yoco) machines to speed up the payment process.
Offer a special or two on drinks. Just something to compensate for the high fees you are charging. Make sure if there are any specials that it is somewhere clear to see.
I have no advice on the the bathroom situation but hopefully there is something that can be done here too.
I really hope next time will be a better experience and I'll be able to...
Read moreThe beach club is absolutely beautiful, but completely mismanaged in my opinion. I came here for a pool day, but it’s safe to say I won’t be doing that again.
Upon entering, we asked the manager, whether we could get a bed by the pool, she told us that we need to pay R500. So, we asked whether we need to spend that much or simply pay that for the beds themselves, to which she didn’t know the answer. I find it a bit surprising that a manager of such a luxurious club has no idea about the prices.
Next, we were taken to the beds. After asking three waiters for towels, no one brought them to us. The waiters themselves don’t coordinate between each other, which led to us having to re-order our meal multiple times. That, with the combination of never receiving our towels was quite frustrating.
Due to the weather conditions, we asked whether we could move away from the pool, as the sand was blowing in our faces. One of the waiters told us yes, so we made our way upstairs. The beds upstairs were frankly quite disgusting. I have attached some photos. They were dirty; they had food stains on them, sand, used towels… it looked like no one has cleaned them in days. The beach club was very empty, so I was quite confused as to why the place was so disturbingly dirty.
After waiting another 15 minutes, the waiter brought our drinks and informed us that actually we can’t even sit on those dirty beds, unless we pay R500 more. This feeds into my point about the waiters not coordinating anything between each other, as the waiter that let us upstairs never mentioned anything about the additional spending.
We moved inside the main restaurant when we finally got our food. The restaurant was also not in the best condition. The window was broken, so we had to move because the waiters were trying to fix it. However, the only reason why they were fixing it, is because another customer complained about the dangers of having a massive broken window. This is what I mean when I say that the management is incompetent. The table was quite dirty, and so were the surroundings. Again, I have attached photo evidence. Nonetheless, I must say, the food was excellent. We had the whole baked chicken, and it was, frankly, one of the best chickens I have ever had. Although the food didn’t outshine all of the bad parts of the beach club, it definitely made the experience more pleasurable. I would not come back, however, I do have to give where credit is...
