Read moreOne of the most iconic institutions in Cape Town, as far as movies are concerned.
Ever since I can remember, the Labia has been serving up independent and amazing movies that one would not normally see in a regular cinema.
I hadn't been there for many years but I recently went there to see "A complete unknown".
Is it lifelong Bob Dylan fan, I found the movie to be extraordinary.
I'm not the kind of person who normally watches movies more than once. "A complete unknown" however, was a music documentary that I will watch again and again.
The Labia is made a nice little outdoor section, which is covered with the tarpaulin, where does the reasonable amount of seating, where you can relax and enjoy a snack from the shop or a coffee.
I was amazed at the length of the popcorn queue. I think it might get into the Guinness book of records has the longest popcorn queue in the world.
The complex is still very old school and there's not changed much fundamentally.
The movie I saw was in the main theatre.
The chairs are not particularly spacious and I did have a person sitting next to me who made me have to keep my hands on my lap throughout the movie is they completely dominated the armrest.
Unfortunately we went into the theatre a little later then we should have and we landed up having to sit in the second row from the front.
Sitting so close to the screen at the Labia is not something I would recommend as it does detract somewhat from the visual comfort of watching a movie, is these seats are very close to the screen.
It is testament to what a wonderful movie it was that I thoroughly enjoyed it in spite of sitting so close to the screen.
I was reminded, after not having gone to the Labia, for a long time, what a wonderful service they offer do people who enjoy independent movies many of which, one would never otherwise have an...

Victoria Wharf at the V&A Waterfront is an absolute delight â whether you're a local or a tourist, this vibrant spot offers something for everyone. I visited in the evening, and the entire area was glowing with beautifully lit boats, twinkling string lights, and the calm sparkle of water under the night sky â simply magical. đâľ
What I loved most:
â Scenic Views: The harbor view is stunning, especially at night. You can see Table Mountain silhouetted in the background while yachts gently bob on the water â perfect for photos or just soaking in the calm.
â Dining Options: There are numerous restaurants and cafes along the waterfront, ranging from casual to upscale. Great vibe, live music at times, and outdoor seating make for a fantastic evening.
â Shopping: The mall inside Victoria Wharf has a great mix of high-end and local stores, so you can browse for everything from designer clothes to unique South African crafts.
â Harbor Tours: Highly recommend booking a boat cruise! We spotted several tours departing right from the dock â romantic sunset rides, harbor tours, even pirate-themed boats for kids!
â Safety & Cleanliness: The area feels very secure with visible security and well-maintained walkways. Itâs clean, family-friendly, and ideal for an evening stroll.
This is easily one of my favorite spots in Cape Town. Whether you're looking for a lively night out, a peaceful evening by the water, or a fun day of shopping and sightseeing, Victoria Wharf has it all.
