Truly Disappointing Experience at John Dory's Fourways Mall My recent visit to John Dory's in Fourways Mall was, without a doubt, one of the most frustrating and disappointing dining experiences I've had in a long time. This establishment clearly has fundamental issues that need urgent attention. Firstly, despite being presented with an alcohol menu, we were informed that they were not properly licensed to serve alcohol. This is not just inconvenient; it's misleading and frankly unprofessional to offer something you cannot provide. To make matters worse, when a I ordered a beer, it was bizarrely served in a tea cup and a teapot. This unconventional and frankly ridiculous presentation only highlighted the chaotic lack of proper service. My disappointment continued when I attempted to order the surf and turf, only to be told they didn't have any steaks available. For a restaurant with such a prominent menu item, this is simply unacceptable. I ultimately settled for the hake, calamari, and squid heads. While the dish initially looked promising – well-presented and seemingly seasoned on the outside – the reality was a stark contrast. The food was absolutely bland, tasting of virtually nothing. Even the accompanying lemon butter, which should have provided a burst of flavor, offered no salvation. The squid heads were particularly problematic. They had a distinct grainy taste, almost like sand, suggesting they had not been washed properly. This, combined with the general lack of flavor, made them incredibly unappetizing. Honestly, if it weren't for the various sauces already on the table, I doubt I would have been able to stomach even a portion of the meal. When i spoke to the waiter to advise her of my meal after i ate it she just brushed it of with a weird face and with an oh okay. Not apologizing or taking intiative at all. Very...
Read moreAfter seeing a few sad reviews, we were hesitant but came through anyway. NOT A SINGLE REGRET! To start, we had a sushi platter that way exceeded my expectations. It was fresh, tasty and the ratio of fish to rice was spot on! I asked our waitress for the sushi chef’s name (Thapelo), because upon our return, if he is making it, I’m ordering it again! For mains, my husband had the hake & calamari: beautifully seasoned and cooked and we were SO relieved to see that it really was grilled. We often order fish and at other restaurants, it’s often delivered oily on a plate. Not this time! I had the hake and prawns with the John Dory special sauce as recommended by our waitress, Khanyi. It was flavoursome, cooked to perfection and a generous portion. Sarah, the manager, was attentive, welcoming and her energy was infectious. Khanyi was our waitress and she was so happy! It is very rare to see someone who genuinely loves their job nowadays and Khanyi really made us believe it when she said it was a pleasure to serve us. Thank you Sarah, Khanyi & Thapelo for completely flipping my initial perception of John Dory’s - I’ll be...
Read moreWe were the yesterday and I can say they were short staffed because of the taxi strike. Despite that, everyone was still friendly and trying their very best!! The food was delicious as always. I waited in line at the night market for an hour, couldn't take it anymore, decided to go to John Dorys. Got there and they were packed, hardly keeping up with the crowd. I realized everyone just like me had the same idea. Waited long for my food because of this, I was hangry and impatient because of the night market. Nevertheless, when I eventually got my food,it was top tier. The owners of this store are such humble kind people, the staff were so kind through the unfortunate circumstances. I saw some nasty reviews today from people with degrees and PhD 's then it hit me,some people are just miserable all together. We can't change that, what we can do is show them, that all the world needs is kindness. Hulle weet nie wat ons weet nie #...
