Having resided at the Michaelangelo Towers for a few years now we have been spoilt for choice when it comes to somewhere to “pop down to for a bite to eat “. Piccolo Mondo ticks all the boxes when it comes to situational dining; whether you’re meeting clients for lunch, a romantic twosome, a 20 year school reunion, high tea or a late night dessert and cocktail. Piccolo Mondo can and will cater for any and all. With its sweeping classical grandiose entrance to the fine dining area which overlooks Nelson Mandela Square. The pagoda style bar central in the high tea room which is consistently abuzz with locals and guests alike houses discretely behind thick glass doors the smokers /cigar lounge with its Decor of over stuffed leather chairs and sofas heavy wood tables, windows wide open on to the bustling square. My partner and I have had the pleasure of dining at piccolo Mondo, tho considered “the Hotel’s “ Restraunt, doing the gamut of buffet breakfast right thru, my partner all but has a table with his name on it from taking clients there for long business lunches that require that professional attention to detail with discretion to privacy as well. I’ve enjoyed many a special occasion dinner, Valentine’s Day, birthdays, anniversaries and every time we are provided with the greetings of that of a family member returning home and the service and menu consistently of an international standard. ( even for this little vegetarian !) It wasn’t until just recently, however , having spied other patrons indulging , that we too, popped down specifically to enjoy the house specialty of the crème brûlée. All I can say is that it tastes as good as it looks. Though one almost doesn’t want to defile what is obviously a masterful work of art !! But hey!, someone has to do it !! I’m sure with places coming and going, as do trends, there is one place you can count on being there when you want “that special place to eat “ that won’t let you down ... piccolo Mondo will open its doors to you and welcome you in and you’ll be glad of your decision ! If I could give 10 stars I would be doing that ! Simply the best in all areas ! Thank you for providing some...

We had high expectations as my son chose to have his 21st Birthday dinner here.

Made a booking for 6 people arrived about 15 minutes late. We were lead to the table that only had 5 settings so we had to wait as only then the staff was scuffling around to complete the seating. With our drink order we ordered water which was not served. The starter soups were good and the bread basket was inviting with various rolls and bread served with a 3 flavored butters. However for a table of 6 the butter was very little. We requested olive oil and balsamic vinegar which was forgotten about.

The mains were very disappointing. The seafood tapas, eisbein and lamb shank was definitely not of 5 star standard. Although very well presented it was terrible . U would think the dessert would be good but nope, my daughter who is a dessert queen refused to eat it. However the creme brûlée was good.

Good presentations does not always mean taste. The most expensive bill with the biggest disappointment. I will not recommend...

I've been to many high teas but Piccolo Mondo at the Michael Angelo is the best... Ambiance is stunning overlooking Mandela Square... Best selection and balance with savouries and sweets and freshness and quality in a buffet setting.. Unlimited amounts of tea selections and filtered coffee... Service attentative, prompt and knowledgeable... Chefs took us through all items on the buffet.... MIL 72nd bday and they made it absolutely special with dry ice smoking presentation of a chocolate in chocolate casing gift and singing happy birthday... So so precious will Def make this a traditional venue....... Price is absolute value in every way.. Priceless...
