My initial impression is that the hotel is really high end & chic. The staff are super friendly & efficient. They received our luggage for us when Air France delivered it. Welcome beverages upon check in.

It takes some getting used to but seems to be a barrier for many things: for car to come in and drop off for elevators for chiller, must ask for access on room card upon check in The toiletries are screwed into the walls Each item is tagged according to the room TV I do appreciate that these are probably for everyone’s safety and security.

ROOM COMES WITH: Blow dryer Philips steamer instead of iron is perfect for work meetings Antipodes body/hand wash, lotion, shampoo & conditioner Welcome gifts: Antipodes minis (a ‘natural’ brand doesn’t do well on Yuka because it has Phenoxyethanol) Lavender pillow mist which can be used as an after-poop spray in a pinch Kiwi Lip Conditioner, Fig and Feijou Hand Cream. What’s Feijou btw? Room scent with stick diffuser Sockets with Swiss, European & S. African sockets + USB which so no need to bring S.African adaptors 2 TVs that does Chromecast with the help of the technician so we could watch our Netflix shows Massive speakers that we haven’t tried to work out

ROOM FEATURES: Separate toilet without sink for washing hands is common in Europe. It would be more sanitary if there was a sink in the toilet Ultra high water pressure. Always getting our top wet while washing hands & waking everyone up with extra noisy flush at night. It can get painful showering. But it’s better too high than too low. Just surprised though coz I know that water is scarce here. Comfortable sofa bed for our son Good turn down service. Bottle of water and chocolate for each person! We also requested for extra firm pillows & got memory foam ones. I slept so well with the fab bed, pillows & beddings.

FOOD Food is fabulous. One of the best I’ve ever had. Period. Breakfast: order warm staples + cold buffet. You still sign even if it’s complimentary so you tip 10%. I love that breakfast is until 11am. We can sleep in & be relaxed. Room service is until 10pm on the TV but staff say until 12mn. Then they can serve sandwiches. I love that they serve food until late! Cafe: serves fabulous cakes, coffee, cold drinks and cocktails For all meals we add 10% gratuity/tip. Worth it! PROUD MARY is so good. I’ll do a separate review on their Google maps.

CUSTOMER SERVICE: For any problems they respond quickly. No long waits. Very customer service oriented.

FOR IMPROVEMENT AC is hard to control. It’s either too cold or too warm. Maintenance was quick to come & help me though. Very chic interior with a lot of open storage, but not enough CLOSED STORAGE or hangers if you are staying a week like us. Great for short stays though. sometimes the glasses/mugs can be dirty/smell bad. I just inspect it well & wash when necessary.

LOCATION The location is unbeatable and so secure. I would not stay anywhere else in Johannesburg. Basically connected to the Rosebank Mall and The Zone. The shopping, movies, museum of illusions, food nearby are fabulous!

Highly...

We stayed at Voco Johannesburg for one night during our layover in Johannesburg. The hotel is brand new and decorated with a modern design. It is located in a nice neighbourhood with a safe feeling, right next to a shopping mall. The rooms are super comfortable and very clean at every corner. The staff were very attentive and friendly. We even felt sad that we were staying at this hotel for only 1 night and we didn't have long enough time to enjoy the hotel fully. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and we will definitely choose again if we were coming back to Johannesburg.

Some details on the particulars:

Welcome: We arrived on an Uber which took about 30 minutes from the airport. The staff welcomed with a warm smile. We were told that our room is not ready yet but they contacted the housekeeping to get the room ready in 15 minutes while offering us a barista prepared coffee of our choice.

IHG Program Recognition: My IHG status was recognised and mentioned. However, during the busy check-in to get the room ready asap, they initially forgot to offer the welcome amenity. After settling in the room and going out, the reception staff ran behind us to tell they forgot to offer welcome amenity and provided a choice of welcome drink or bonus IHG points. We requested points but this is not credited in my account either.

Location: The hotel is 30 minutes from the Johannesburg airport. We were not going to any particular area in Johannesburg since we were on a layover, but we booked a Soweto tour and nicely got picked up from our hotel by the tour. Lots of restaurants and shops nearby. It felt safe to walk around in the area.

Meals: We had a rushed breakfast as we had to be at the airport at 8 a.m. The breakfast starts at 6:30 and we ordered a french toast and a granola bowl. Both of them were extremely delicious. We wished we had time and we could enjoy the breakfast longer.

Rooms: The rooms extremely clean and comfortable and very nicely decorated. It provides all necessities. The bed was super comfortable and we truly enjoyed our experience. As in most IHG hotels, the Antipodes hand wash and shower amenities...

Voco has to be the most Vibrant hotels situated in one of Joburg’s colourful Neighbourhoods Rosebank, so much Authenticity, freedom of movement the location is nothing short of perfect: The mall is literally around your hotel building more than 15 trendy restaurants More than 40 different stores for shopping African Markets Book stores Coffee shops Clothings stores Cinema Night Clubs Food Markets Trendy Galleries around the Neighbourhood 20-30 minutes drive to the airport And many more A beautiful high rised black building filled with so much Mystery from the outside looking in, smiles and cups of coffee flying around chairs and tables with rapid service you’d swear they float on Aladdin’s Magic Carpet, what about the themed rooms looking very bright and artistic from the outside?

Surely the step is invite yourself in and look for reception; the interior design from bottom to rooftop is like stepping into vegas with a touch of art Decor and African avant-garde and it’s subtlety painted with background noises that are loud and calm enough to cause an impression for first time visitors.

The experience in Voco hotel Phenomenon that belongs in the Chest of Golden Memories.

The hotel caters for everyone from leisure to business, work shops you name it; there different offices spaces that different Businesses can hire and use as base for work Purposes.

the Hotel Boast of South African art pieces that show case the different stories and lively hoods of different spaces there’s a curator who also takes you around the building to explain the different meanings behind every art piece. The are numerous hidden Gems in this building that will make you think Alice in wonderland is a real world; Gyming facilities that are worth a good run for your money easily tucked away in corners of the hotel that are magically inspired to provide guests with the most private times...

Having just returned from South Africa, myself and my friend stayed at this hotel on 3 separate occasions during our trip. We were lucky enough to have stayed in different rooms on each stay, and I have to say we were very impressed with the standard of the rooms. This was my first trip to Johannesburg, and I can confidently say that when I return I will only stay at the Voco. Everything from the actual location, the quality of the food and most importantly the customer service provided by the staff was brilliant. On our final stay there was a mix up with the room we had booked. However, the way in which the issue was dealt with was customer service at its best. We had booked one room with two beds, which was not available, and so we were offered a suite and an additional room. As my friend had a child, she took the suite and the room I had, literally felt like an apartment. Upon joining my friend in the suite (for a girlie chat), the hotel had provided (as an apology) a chilled bottle of wine with a fruit and cheese platter. Absolutely nothing was too much trouble. I also have to commend the porters and the door staff who always had a smile on their faces. On each of our stays we felt like we were coming home. Easily one of the best hotels I have stayed at 100%. I can't wait to return.
