Rosebank Mall is paradise for short term satisfaction seekers ( like me). Thank goodness my teens can buy online (or local). They too have started to see through the blandness of liquid modernity. We duck in and out of these temples to consumer culture. Enjoy the dopamine rush of quick pleasures. Experience (not consumption), is what causes us to congregate in these wide corridors filled with bright hues.
The second best part of the mall visit is the Rosebank rooftop parking facility (the uncovered part, near to the market). With a car, this view can also light up your brain. Once youâve found the correct corner, the parking spot offers the observer, a bird's eye view of the greater Joâburg forrest area and the cities changing landscape.
The parking places are spacious and well kept. Rosebank parking offers great value for money. Although finding a suitable bay, especially during peak hours, is a chore. The roofless area is well-lit, sunlight makes a welcome change to garish lighting. Since rooftop parking is just a short elevator ride away from the overpriced shops and crowded restaurants, accessing the materialistic metropolis is as easy as clicking a lower ground / upper ground floor button. Yes, the âdisruptorsâ and their hovering queues in pick at up points, do make it initially difficult to drive up the steep roller coaster like ramp to the rooftop parking entrance. Once you have plateaued, a plethora of car washers, touting for business in the parking lot, is your first reward. They turn a parking lot search into an interactive conversation, perhaps even a cleaner car. Head straight, towards the go-cart racing. Park your car under the sky.
I gave the Rosebank Rooftop Parking 4 out of 5 stars. Only the accessibility of the parking ramp is wanting. The view, IMHO, is one that only available to expensive penthouses, or mountain climbers. Instead of having to trudge up Melville Koppies with the dogs. I can drive up to the top of this car container, itâs top absent. Look out across this complex crazy city called Johannesburg. Breathe for a few minutes and return refreshed to face the chaos, that we call daily life.
The best part about visiting the Rosebank mall. Touch-less parking ticket boom gates. Hate to think of what germs lie on those buttons. Much better to wave at a sensor, and say a temporary farewell. Will be back soon for...
