So I have very mixed feelings about this hotel 🛏️🏨

We arrived early at 1 so we knew the room wouldn't be ready so went to the bar 🍻 and had cocktails 🍸🍹

At around 2 20 we came back to check in and found our room was still not ready, ok they gave us a welcome drink 🍷 of Hanepoot and we sat down and waited ...so we only got the room around 3 20/30 mark during our time of waiting no one really took responsibility we were talking to the staff but no one really took action, not sure why there was no duty manager helping out with this?

Eventually we got to the room and the room stunk to high heaven of industrial chemicals so what ever they use to clean the rooms is super strong and with all the windows 🪟 closed we opened them and then immediately left and went for a walk intown as it was simply to strong in the room the smell.

The room itself was ok and decent enough, yet the shelves all still had dust on them so yeah not a good start. Apparently they were fully booked the previous night from the reception yet when we asked the later staff that seemed to be a lie so I'm not sure on that or why the rooms take forever to clean and yet they are still dirty.

Also the shower 🚿 door has lost its seal so water does leak onto the floor.

The room I booked on Agoda definitely is not the same I got or even in the same category.

Breakfast 🍳 is an insanely 250 per person so we didn't bother with that but note on Agoda it shows 190 or 175 can't remember as we were gonna get it but then the price hike!

They did give us a cheap bottle of champagne 🍾 after taking these issues up with them.

They did give us a complementary gin tasting which was nice of them.

Overall being a Marriott hotel you expect a certain level from the hotel and unfortunately this hotel has none of it and charge 1500 per night which was around what we paid just not acceptable. Staff seemed not wanna take responsibility and overall just felt overwhelmingly stale .

The bar is the only good thing we really enjoyed room was ok but not what Agoda...

My friend and I spent one night at the Protea Hotel Mossel Bay in October 2021. We were in town to go great white shark cage diving. We were treated phenomenally from the moment we arrived at the hotel. My Gold status was acknowledged by the front desk attendant who checked us in as well as with a sign hanging in the lobby, welcoming me by name to the hotel. We were upgraded to a nicer room (a Gold status benefit) but also allowed to check in to our room early (not a benefit to which I was necessarily entitled). A staff member brought anything we needed (extra towels, etc.) to our room within just a few minutes of calling down to the front desk. Every staff member with whom we interacted was helpful and friendly, always greeting us with a smile. I want to particularly acknowledge Alfonso who truly went above and beyond to help us. As I wrote above, we were in town to go shark cage diving and my friend had forgotten to pack a warm hat for the boat. The evening before our dive, my friend asked Alfonso whether he knew a store in town that was open and selling such hats. Instead of simply telling us where we could find one, Alfonso called a store, confirmed it was open, ran to the store just before it closed to buy the hat, and delivered it to our room personally. I was astounded by this show of genuine care for a guest. Alfonso displayed true kindness and concern for my friend. Finally, we requested and were granted a 2 p.m. late check out (a Gold status benefit). The hotel's restaurant (Cafe Gannet) is phenomenal. The rooms are quite nice and some have balconies with beautiful views of the bay. But the staff is what makes this hotel special. As I wrote at the top, we were only in town for one night but that's all the time the wonderful staff of the Protea Hotel Mossel Bay needed to leave a lasting impression upon me. The best customer service is the sort that makes you feel valued not just as a customer but as a human being. The people working at this hotel understand this. I won't soon...

If you are stopping in Mossel bay when you are driving along South Africa's garden route, the consider the Protea Mossel bay hotel. It is a stunning location right at the harbour and centre of town. You also get free access to the Bartholomew Dias museum and park across from the hotel. They provided both private parking and on street parking just outside the hotel. Mist rooms are great but the townhouse style suites are fantastic, you have a full kitchen and a nice lounge with a balcony at the entrance level, downstairs is the main bedroom with another balcony and a huge bathroom with a shower and a big tub. At the top floor is another smaller bedroom with ceiling windows. The have a great restaurant and bar with both in and outdoor seating with great views over the bay. There is a pool and a nice sundeck for hot summer day's. The only thing missing is a gym but they have complimentary access to one of the gyms in town. There is plenty of activities to see and do around the hotel including grocery shopping, restaurants, museums and the harbour so there is no need to use the car. The staff are very friendly and helpful, I would thoroughly recommend a stay here.

Excellent location, nice facilities but a small worm problem. The rooms at this location are fairly small but very well decorated and modern. The team made a lot of small touches to make our experience extra special since it was our honeymoon. The view of the harbour from the room was really pretty and we were able to see a boat race in the morning. We loved the buffet breakfast from the restaurant on site with the mimosa station. The improvements: our room had a bit of a leaking issue that ran along the wall and brought up these small worms which was pretty gross. The hotel was full so there wasn’t any ability to change room. Also, I didn’t love the set up of the pool because the restaurant and bar overlook it. If you swim, you’re literally on display for dozens of people having drinks. If you suntan it is pretty awkward and the photos are a bit misleading of the set up.
