Great service with disappointing food. I'm not sure what I expected, but when a place says "Seafood & Grillhouse" I expect fire seafood. That wasn't the case. We ordered the Creamy Garlic Mussels starter and it was mediocre. They essentially drenched mussels with a basic white sauce. The flavouring was flat (no salt, and adequate flavourful seasoning) and they paired that with a roll - which felt so out of place.
The classic sushi selections were also a let down. They overcooked the Tempura prawns which were as hard as chicken strips - literally. That's how much they overcooked that prawn. It was too hard to still be prawns 😭 Very disappointing. The Inaki Bean Curd was the show stopper. She stole the show. THAT was excellent. Very well done, flavours of ths topping perfectly balanced against the bean curd & rice. The Salmon Maki was diabolical because they had DROPLETS of salmon sandwiched in a sea of rice. It was so hard to chew that I ended up opening the maki and picking out the little pieces of salmon to eat alone. So stingy.
The spicy lamb burger exceeds expectations and no wonder it's a favourite at the restaurant. It's FIRE - literally. The basting was perfect. The textures of the patties was divine, and the HEAT of the patties was explosive. Well done on that burger. A must try. But sadly that's all they offered us.
The Strawberry Margherita (shaken) was also delicious. But I never spend my money where I don't enjoy anything, so after the average tasting food we decided to leave and go try another restaurant.
The service, on the other hand, was excellent. From the entrance we were greeted, then our waiter was fabulous - attentive and very available whenever we needed something. I think a manager also came to check on us. We loved that a lot. It's unfortunate the food didn't match our expectations, we would've...
Read moreMy cousin and I went in today for lunch. Our waitress seated us at the bottom and whilst deciding on the menu we asked to be moved to be seated at the top. Once we were seated at the top with our drinks we waited for about 20 minutes for our waitress to come up and take our food order yet she didn't. She sent a man whom I am not sure if he was the manager or a waiter, he proceeded to take our order however after telling him what we wanted to eat he proceeded to pick on my weight and tell me I needed to maintain my weight for Decemeber. He then said I should rather pick a side of salad and he feels sorry for my boyfriend because he won't be able to carry me with how heavy I am. My cousin and I just laughed it off as we are still teenagers and we didn't want to confront him. As teenagers we're still going through puberty and body changes and already are insecure about our bodies. Whether or not he meant it in a funny way, it was extremely rude and uncalled for. A couple minutes after that he came back up and placed the card machine on our table while we were still waiting for the food and he proceeded to say some other "jokes" which we barely heard because we were still so surprised and then he laughed it off and said "oh, wrong table". I'm not sure whether or not that was a coincidence but overall I would say that our first time at this restaurant will be our last. The customer service is horrible and the food aswell could be much better.
I would also like to add that I have PCOS so it's cruel to judge somebody without knowing what they're going through or what health issues they might have. I'm extremely...
Read moreAfter seeing a wave of tempting Instagram reels, my boyfriend and I decided to give 1 on Palm (Gateway) a try for a Friday date night. I’d been there a few years ago and remembered excellent food, great service, and prices that didn’t make your wallet cry.
This time around, things were a little different. The restaurant wasn’t particularly busy, and while our waitress was friendly, we were seated in a booth with poor lighting — those bright neon signs on the wall may look trendy, but they don’t exactly set the mood.
We started off with milkshakes — Oreo and chocolate — both thick, rich, and honestly enough to count as dessert all on their own. For starters, the fried calamari was a generous portion and nicely cooked — crisp, flavorful, and a solid win.
For mains, I went with the half chicken and prawn combo in peri peri, and let me tell you — it brought the heat! The prawns were delicious, perfectly seasoned, but the chicken was disappointingly dry. My boyfriend, ever loyal to his steak, had the steak and prawn combo with pepper sauce, which hit the mark for him — well-cooked and tasty.
The vibe overall was a bit flat for a Friday night — not much atmosphere, and our waitress disappeared for long stretches, which didn’t help.
All in all, it was an okay meal for the price, but it didn’t quite live up to the hype (or my fond memories of my first visit). Will we be back? Hard to say. Maybe — if they bring back that spark the old 1...
