Today my family and I decided to visit mimmos gateway after ages. I must say I had good memories of this establishment from years gone by. I must say the food sadly was an utter disappointment the starter which was the crumbled mushroom and calamari were so heavily battered and deep fried, u could use it to break a glass plate. The mains which were pizza and pasta were heavily salted and lets not forget we were given pizza which had an undercooked base which we had to send back to have placed in the oven for a little while longer.
The above is not even the worst of my experience. On completion of the meal I requested the bill and was shocked to find a R70 tip of 10% had automatically been added to my bill without the waiter or establishment having informed me. There was no visible signage posted on the table, menu or anywhere in the establishment advising of this 10% surcharge. On further questioning the waiter she advised they have no signage advising of this except the bill itself. I informed her as a paying customer I have the right to refuse to pay this charge as had I known about it I would have chosen not to frequent this establishment. I personally don't believe In today's entitled tipping culture and when I do tip its not going to be 10% of my bill. I work hard for my salary and refuse to squander it on exorbitant tips. The waiter said I was to pay that tip as it was levied on my bill and when I requested to speak to the manager he advised I was not obligated to pay the 10% surcharge or tip fee. I informed him he could levy what he liked as a tip on the bill but as a consumer I was not given a choice in the matter and as I was the one paying with my hard earned cash I would not be paying the 10% tip. I paid in cash and left minus the tip. I would suggest anyone visiting this establishment in future be made aware of this 10% tip fee which is automatically levied on each bill and leaves the poor customer in a state of complete shock and under those circumstances one has 2 choices, eirther pay and leave with a feeling of having been coerced into a huge tip or standing up for themselves like I did and excerise your right as a consumer to be informed in advance of any and all additional surcharges before...

My wife, three teenagers, and I decided to try it for dinner, but unfortunately, it fell far short of expectations.
To start, my family ordered pizzas and pastas, which they described as just "okay." However, my experience was far worse. I ordered a T-bone steak, which turned out to be the worst steak I’ve ever had. It was completely bland, incredibly tough, and genuinely difficult to cut through. It was as if the steak had never been seasoned or prepared properly.
To accompany it, I ordered Jalapeño Poppers, but what I received was anything but. It was a random mix of vegetables with large, unpleasant chunks of dough thrown in—a far cry from what poppers are supposed to be. The dish was absolutely horrible and unappetizing.
Adding to the frustration was the atmosphere. There was a DJ playing music so loudly that we, as a family, couldn’t hear each other talk around the table. While we appreciate lively dining environments, this was excessive and unsuitable for families. We had to request that the music volume be lowered, which they obliged, but it shouldn’t have been necessary in the first place.
On a positive note, the manager and our waiter, Zee, were polite and apologetic about the issues we raised.

A very unimpressed waitress begrudgingly took our order rather halfheartedly...Carmen was her name. We asked for a special request which she said she would find out...but came back much later. She then told us she was not out waitress there was a mishap with tables etc. I then asked for our waitress since she seem very annoyed taking our order. When our waitress did come to our table, I asked Carmen if she put our order through already....she said she didn't cos she waiting for us to make up our mind...and rather loudly and walked off!!
