I celebrated my birthday here with 11 friends on Wednesday when they had the buy one get one free burger special. When we arrived for our reservation I noticed a sign saying that if it's my birthday I get a free meal. I asked the waiter up front if I would be able to use that while everyone else ordered the burger special and a couple other main meals. He told me it was ok and that I could get my meal free. After a few hours we got the bill. The waiter then informed me that the manager didn't want to allow me to have the free birthday meal and I'd have to pay for it. When I asked to speak to him the manager informed me that I couldn't take advantage of the birthday special "otherwise I'm just milking the business" with my measly ~R2500 bill. I felt that was extremely unprofessional of him and we proceeded to get into a bit of a heated argument as I'd taken the effort to find out if it was allowed before ordering. The poster made no mention of using the birthday special in conjunction with any other special, which i pointed out to the manager. The manager was uncompromising and couldn't offer me any more explanation other than that it's the owners rules and if I don't like it I can email the owner. I eventually said that if I'm paying for my burger meal then I'd like a second burger free since that's the special for Wednesdays which he agreed to. I later saw him scolding the waiter quite aggressively. I called the waiter aside (he said his name was Peter) and asked him what was going on. He said that if I complain to the owner it would come back to him and he would be in trouble and possibly lose his job, which angered me quite a bit since he'd done nothing wrong in my eyes. He even offered to pay for my meal out of his own pocket to make it go away. I refused his generous offer and instead tipped him extra for the trouble on his part. He was a great waiter the entire night and I had no issues with him so don't see why he should be punished for the manager's crappy attitude. Definitely won't be dining here again any time soon if that's how the manger wants to treat customers. Just an update. Upon inspection today the free burger I got from the manager was raw. Another reminder never to waste my time...
Read moreGreat food and daily specials. The truffle mushroom burger and the cheesy nachos will change your life!
The staff are friendly. The place has a good vibe. Would recommend for sure!

UPDATE: I won't spend another cent of my own money here. A good couple weeks ago now (been putting writing this off) I ordered burgers for the security at the office. It was the burger special day, but they can't leave their desks so I ordered it to go. I was then told I MUST buy a drink per meal and pay a packaging fee. I explained the situation and told the person and the manager that the food wasn't even for me...
Now, I'm a regular (well, was before this) and the staff know me when I walk in already. So I went in and spoke to the manager in person before collecting my order. The manager was... Well, not able to do manager things... I can't I can't I can't was all he kept saying.
So anyway, I haven't been there and don't intend to spend my own money there ever again. That's no way to treat a regular customer. Such a pity, the food is good and it was a...
Read moreExtremely disappointing experience at Slug & Lettuce last night. We came to support a friend hosting the karaoke event and had a table booked for 7:30 PM. Running late, my wife tried calling the venue seven times to update our reservation — all calls were declined. She eventually reached our friend (the host), who confirmed it was okay to move the booking to 8:30 or 9:00.
When we arrived, we were met with a rude comment from a waiter about how much money we’d cost him by being late, with no interest in hearing our side. We asked to change tables for a better view of the stage and were completely ignored. Despite waiting for 30 minutes and following up, no one came to take our order or assist us. The manager saw everything and made no effort to step in.
My wife went out of her way to communicate and was met with nothing but indifference and disrespect. Absolutely...
